“I learn from hands-on experience rather than reading PowerPoints.”
That's a direct quote from a correctional officer surveyed for a recent look at jail training gaps. Officers said academy training leans too heavily on lectures — and not enough on scenario-based practice, communication and de-escalation skills, and consistent field training once they hit the floor.
