So you want to use less energy. Why start with hot water?

It's the second-biggest guzzler of home energy that nobody talks about. We turn down the heat in the winter, delay kicking on the AC during a heat wave, obsessively turn off lights - but your hot water uses about 1/5th of your home's energy.

One of the Reservoir team members woke up to this in their basement.

It could have been a lot worse. This is almost the best-case scenario when a water heater breaks: caught quickly, only one shallow puddle, no possessions damaged.

If nobody had gone into the basement that morning, this home could have had inches of standing water, and all the attendant damage, until the next time someone happened to go downstairs.

No shade to the manufacturer of this water heater - it was installed in 2010, and simply past the end of its useful life. But Reservoir is built (with active corrosion control and on-device leak sensors) so this doesn't happen.

(Fun fact: this water heater is so small because it's dedicated for a laundry machine and utility sink shared by multiple units!)

Reservoir won at the Consortium for Energy Efficiency Integrated Home Competition! 🏅

CEE evaluates connected home products against four criteria:
1) Energy efficiency
2) Demand flexibility
3) Consumer amenity
4) Security

The judges particularly liked Reservoir's integrated recirculation pump, home protection features, and strong warranty.

A new Canary Media piece on the state of heat-pump water heaters features a Reservoir customer who put words to a frustration a lot of homeowners run into:

"I didn't want to be a project manager."

That's what it's like coordinating different contractors, getting separate quotes, pulling separate permits, all for one appliance. We're building Reservoir to make it easy to go electric: one price and one installation for one appliance.

..yep, it's a triple-decker. One building, three households, three separate systems, three separate bills.

Reservoir is well-suited to multi-family buildings like this, even if you live on the third floor. You can monitor and control it from your phone, so you don't have to trek down to the basement to check on it, and the Reservoir Max's integrated recirculation pump means you get steamy hot water as soon as you turn on the tap.
