A Journey of Resilience and Growth: Muhuyadin Hange's Story
Muhuyadin Hange's journey into IT is a story of resilience, growth, and the power of education. His curiosity about how things worked led him to tinker with old computers and gadgets, sparking a lifelong passion for technology. However, the path to a career in IT took much work.
After moving to Columbus, Ohio, Muhuyadin pursued various educational opportunities. He earned a Pharmacy Technician Certification from Columbus State Community College in 2012. Driven by a desire to help others, he furthered his education by obtaining a Hijama Cupping Therapy Diploma from Hijama Nation Academy in London, UK, in 2017 and an Iridology Diploma from the School of Natural Health Sciences in London, UK, in 2021.
Muhuyadin founded Salaam Care Wellness Clinic in Columbus in 2017 with his new qualifications. The clinic aimed to provide holistic health services to the community, focusing on cupping therapy and iridology. For several years, the business thrived, helping many clients improve their well-being. "Helping others achieve better health has always been a passion of mine," Muhuyadin reflects. I felt fulfilled seeing my clients improve."
However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 brought unforeseen challenges. The restrictions and economic impact of the pandemic significantly affected his business, leading Muhuyadin to seek new opportunities. Determined to pivot his career, he discovered Advanced Technology Education (ATE), an organization dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals from underserved populations. Recognizing his potential, ATE offered him a chance to enroll in their IT program, marking a significant turning point in his life.
At ATE, Muhuyadin received comprehensive training in various aspects of IT, from troubleshooting hardware and software issues to mastering network configurations and security measures. The hands-on experience and guidance from experienced instructors equipped him with the skills and confidence needed to excel in IT. "ATE provided me with the knowledge and support I needed to transition into a new field," he says. "They believed in me when I needed it most."
The supportive environment at ATE helped Muhuyadin enhance his technical abilities and develop essential soft skills. He learned the importance of effective communication, teamwork, and customer service, which are crucial in the IT industry. His multilingual proficiency in English, Somali, and Arabic further enabled him to connect with diverse clients and colleagues.
Muhuyadin's dedication and hard work paid off when he secured an internship at SigmaNet IT Services. Here, he applied his knowledge in real-world scenarios, gaining valuable experience monitoring support tickets, performing malware removal, and providing hardware support. The internship solidified his understanding of IT operations and boosted his confidence in his abilities.
Today, Muhuyadin is not just an IT technician but a testament to the transformative power of education and determination. He is currently taking classes to become a cybersecurity professional and is expected to graduate in a few months. "I'm excited about the future," Muhuyadin shares. "Every day is a new opportunity to learn and grow."
His journey from a holistic health practitioner to a skilled IT professional in Columbus is a source of inspiration. ATE's support was instrumental in turning his aspirations into reality, providing him with the tools and opportunities to build a successful career in IT.
