Lake Country Fire & Rescue Responds to Drowning Incident on Lake Nagawicka

City of Delafield, WI – At approximately 12:36 p.m. on June 13, 2026, Lake Country Fire & Rescue was dispatched for a report of a possible drowning on Lake Nagawicka. Initial information indicated a missing swimmer, prompting an immediate multi-agency water rescue response.

Upon arrival, Lake Country Fire & Rescue, joined by Western Lakes Fire District and the Western Waukesha Dive team, deployed specialized dive rescue and water-rescue assets to the scene. A total of seven boats were involved in the coordinated search effort, including:
• 3 fire department boats
• 2 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) boats
• 2 police boats
• Aerial drones from Western Lake Fire District and City of Brookfield Police Department

Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the operation, including the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, City of Delafield Police Department, Chenequa Police Department, City of Brookfield, New Berlin Police Department, and Hartland Police Department.

One victim was located and removed from the water. The incident lasted approximately two hours from the initial 911 call to the removal of the victim.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident,” said Lake Country Fire & Rescue leadership. “We are grateful for the rapid, coordinated response of all fire, law enforcement, and DNR personnel who worked together under challenging circumstances.”

Lake Country Fire Rescue stresses to boaters and anyone recreating on any body of water of the importance and lifesaving capabilities of a personal flotation device. As a reminder, all vessels require a US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device for each occupant of the vessel. Water conditions can change rapidly, and Lake Country Fire Rescue recommends all persons entering the water to be wearing a personal flotation device.

The incident remains under investigation by the appropriate law enforcement and medical authorities. No further details regarding the victim are being released at this time.

🚒 Glacier Road Fire Quickly Contained Thanks to Working Smoke Detectors 🚒

Just before midnight on Monday, Lake Country Fire & Rescue responded to a reported garage fire on Glacier Road in the Town of Delafield. Occupants reported that their home was filling with smoke and that the attached garage was on fire.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed the fire had been extinguished by the occupants and worked to ensure there was no extension into the living area of the home. Firefighters removed burned contents, ventilated the residence, and confirmed the fire was contained to items stored in the attached garage. The incident was brought under control within minutes, and no injuries were reported.

🏠 The real hero of this story? Working smoke detectors.

The sleeping occupants were alerted by smoke alarms inside the home, giving them the time they needed to safely evacuate and call 9-1-1. This incident is a powerful reminder that properly installed and maintained smoke detectors save lives.

LCFR encourages everyone to:
✅ Test smoke alarms monthly
✅ Replace batteries as recommended
✅ Replace smoke alarms every 10 years
✅ Have and practice a home escape plan

Lake Country Fire & Rescue would like to thank the Hartland Police Department, Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, Hartland Fire Department, and Merton Fire Department for their assistance.
