Lake Country Fire & Rescue Responds to Drowning Incident on Lake Nagawicka
City of Delafield, WI – At approximately 12:36 p.m. on June 13, 2026, Lake Country Fire & Rescue was dispatched for a report of a possible drowning on Lake Nagawicka. Initial information indicated a missing swimmer, prompting an immediate multi-agency water rescue response.
Upon arrival, Lake Country Fire & Rescue, joined by Western Lakes Fire District and the Western Waukesha Dive team, deployed specialized dive rescue and water-rescue assets to the scene. A total of seven boats were involved in the coordinated search effort, including:
• 3 fire department boats
• 2 Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) boats
• 2 police boats
• Aerial drones from Western Lake Fire District and City of Brookfield Police Department
Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in the operation, including the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, City of Delafield Police Department, Chenequa Police Department, City of Brookfield, New Berlin Police Department, and Hartland Police Department.
One victim was located and removed from the water. The incident lasted approximately two hours from the initial 911 call to the removal of the victim.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident,” said Lake Country Fire & Rescue leadership. “We are grateful for the rapid, coordinated response of all fire, law enforcement, and DNR personnel who worked together under challenging circumstances.”
Lake Country Fire Rescue stresses to boaters and anyone recreating on any body of water of the importance and lifesaving capabilities of a personal flotation device. As a reminder, all vessels require a US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device for each occupant of the vessel. Water conditions can change rapidly, and Lake Country Fire Rescue recommends all persons entering the water to be wearing a personal flotation device.
The incident remains under investigation by the appropriate law enforcement and medical authorities. No further details regarding the victim are being released at this time.
