Wannigan Regional Park Update + Becker SWCD Spotlight

The Wannigan Regional Park work behind the scenes continues — and one of our own, Karl Koenig, is helping make sure this project moves forward with the care and planning it deserves.

Karl has been working closely with partners to support natural resource protection, tree and plant considerations, and long‑term conservation planning for the park. His involvement reflects the kind of thoughtful, community‑centered conservation work Becker SWCD is proud to bring to Becker County.

🎉 Congratulations to the graduates of the first-ever District Manager Professional Development Cohort (DMPD), sponsored by MASWCD!

Over the course of a year, 13 district managers from Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) across Minnesota came together for seven in-depth, multi-day sessions designed to enhance their management skills, financial acumen and operational efficiency while strengthening relationships with peers, exchanging ideas and experiences, and building confidence in their ability to lead effective teams and advance conservation work across Minnesota.

This year's inaugural cohort included Brayden Anderson (Yellow Medicine SWCD), Riley Buley (Fillmore SWCD), Lindsey Cornell (Freeborn SWCD), Tiffany Determan (Isanti SWCD), Ashley Gallagher (Dakota SWCD), Kay Gross (Cottonwood SWCD), Jessica Klingfus (Dodge SWCD), Aaron Larsen (West Otter Tail SWCD), Bryan Malone (Becker SWCD), Jaren Peplinski (Kanabec SWCD), Carrie Schultz (Watonwan SWCD), Tara Solem (Lake SWCD), and Paul Swanson (Pine SWCD).

The next round of Soil Health Equipment Grants is now open—great opportunity for local producers!

We're opening the next round of our Soil Health Financial Assistance Program Grants for application on Aug. 3. The grant helps people purchase or retrofit equipment to support soil-building practices. A total of $5 million is available.
