Should your business hire an internal IT department or partner with a Managed Service Provider?

An internal IT person can be a valuable resource, but one person is still one person. They cannot be an expert in cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, cloud services, networking, backups and compliance while somehow never taking a vacation.

A Managed Service Provider gives your business access to an entire technology team, broader expertise, predictable costs and around the clock monitoring. For some larger organizations, the best answer may be a combination of internal IT and an MSP working together.

Our latest blog examines the advantages, costs and limitations of each approach so you can decide what makes the most sense for your business.

Your employees are already using AI. The real question is whether they are using it safely.

Without clear AI policies and standard operating procedures, businesses risk:

Sensitive data being entered into public AI tools
Inaccurate information influencing important decisions
Inconsistent processes across employees
Compliance, privacy, and cybersecurity problems

Avoiding AI is not the answer. Using it responsibly is.

Hogan Technology can help your business create practical AI policies and SOPs that protect your data while allowing your team to benefit from this powerful technology.

Is your business ready for AI, or is AI already ahead of your policies?

Contact Hogan Technology to start the conversation.

A logo can be simple. What it represents should be anything but.

For 40 years, the Hogan name, our gold triangle, and our black and gold colors have reflected who we are: local, transparent, always moving forward, and proud to stand behind our work.

Our latest blog shares the story behind the Team Hogan brand, including a few early name ideas that thankfully never made the cut.

Read “The Brand Behind the Triangle”:

After 40 years, our logo still tells the story. from cabling roots to managed technology, the triangle and the name reflect pride, transparency, and forward motion.

Hogan Technology was proud to sponsor Brew at the Zoo at The Zoo in Forest Park this past weekend!

It was a terrific evening bringing people together to enjoy great local brews while supporting one of Springfield’s most treasured community organizations. We’re always happy to support events that strengthen our region and help local institutions thrive.

Thank you to everyone who organized, participated in, and attended this year’s event. We had a great time and look forward to the next one!

Culture is not just something you put on a wall. It is something you live every day.

We recently created these signs for our office as a reminder of what we expect from ourselves at Hogan Technology:

“Our culture drives everything we do. We deliver exceptional service, adapt to our clients’ needs, and always do the right thing.”

That statement reflects who we are and how we have built this company over the past 40 years. Technology will continue to change, but our commitment to our clients and to doing the right thing will not.

I’m proud of the culture our team has built, and even prouder of the people who live it every day.

Note from our CEO, Sean Hogan:

I just returned from a trip to Montana, which is where I go to recharge my batteries, clear my head, and get grounded.

One of the best parts of the trip was knowing that I could truly disconnect because our team was taking care of business back home. That is something I never take for granted.

During our managers meeting, our controller Doug recognized Earl Chagnonfor stepping up when things got a little hectic. Earl jumped in where he was needed and helped make a difference.

I keep Big Y gift certificates in my desk for moments just like this. I was more than happy to walk over, shake Earl’s hand, and give him a gift certificate as a small way of showing our appreciation.

The funny part was Earl looked at me and asked, “What did I do?”

I told him, “You were recognized for jumping in when we needed you, and that is greatly appreciated.”

Sometimes the people who make the biggest difference are not looking for recognition. They simply see what needs to be done and get to work.

I am proud of Earl, and I am proud of the entire Hogan Technology team for allowing me to step away, recharge, and return knowing the company was in great hands.

Culture is not just what a company says. It is built through everyday actions, trust, respect and showing people they matter.

Signs You Have Outgrown Your Current IT Provider

As Jeff Foxworthy might say, if your IT person seems laid back or nonchalant when your business has a real service issue, there’s your sign.

If it feels like you are always training a new IT person on how your environment works, there’s another sign.

Most businesses do not wake up one day and decide they need a new IT provider.

It usually happens slowly.

Response times get longer.

The same issues keep coming back.
Security is barely discussed.
No one is helping you plan ahead.
Everything feels reactive.

At some point, the business grows, but the IT support does not grow with it.

That is when technology starts to feel like a drag instead of a tool.

A good IT provider should not just fix things when they break. They should know your environment, document it properly, help you avoid problems, improve security, plan for growth, support your people, and make sure your business can keep running.

If your IT conversations are always about tickets, outages, passwords, printers, and “we will get back to you,” it may be time to ask a bigger question.

Is your current provider helping your business move forward, or are they just keeping the lights on?
