Rocking or feeding your baby to sleep isn’t a bad habit!

Sometimes it’s the easiest way to get your baby to sleep, and if it’s working for your family, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it!

I don’t believe there are “bad” sleep habits, but there ARE sleep habits.

Babies learn through repetition, and when they’re used to falling asleep a certain way, they naturally start to prefer it.

That can become a challenge when it’s the only way they know how to fall asleep, AND it’s no longer working for your family.

Here’s what I want you to remember:

🩵 You’re allowed to change something about your baby’s sleep simply because it’s not working for YOU anymore.

🩵 Just because your baby has always fallen asleep one way doesn’t mean they can’t learn another. Independent sleep skills can be taught with a responsive, supportive approach.

What worked during the newborn stage might not work at 6 months, 12 months, or beyond. And that’s okay!

You don’t have to feel guilty about the sleep habits you’ve created, and you don’t have to feel guilty about changing them.

Remember that time I wrote and published a children’s book, talked about it all summer, and then barely mentioned it once fall rolled around?

Oops 🙈

Anyway… REMEMBER HOW I WROTE A BOOK?!

*All Through the Night* is still out there in the world, and with the holidays coming up, I figured it was a good time to remind you that it makes a pretty great gift!

Whether you’re shopping for your own little one, a new baby, or a family who loves a good bedtime story, I’d love for my book to find a spot on your bookshelf!

And as a pediatric sleep consultant, you KNOW I love anything that makes bedtime a little more special.

From a sleep-deprived mom of a 4-month-old to a confident mom of a great little sleeper at 10 months. 🥹

THIS is why I love what I do!

Pediatric sleep consulting is about so much more than sleeping through the night. It’s about helping families navigate night wakings, naps, sleep associations, and changing sleep schedules while building healthy, independent sleep habits that last.

And the best part? Giving parents the knowledge and confidence to navigate their child’s sleep as they grow.

So grateful for families who trust me with their little ones!

If you’ve been thinking about working with me, now’s the time!

I’ll be taking a short break from accepting new sleep consulting clients October 28 – November 15.

If you’ve hired me before October 28, I’ll continue supporting your family! I just won’t be starting with any new families during that time.

So if you’ve been thinking about getting help with night wakings, short naps, bedtime battles, or building healthy sleep habits, let’s connect before my calendar closes! 🩵

Sleep training isn’t linear.

One night your baby sleeps beautifully. The next, you’re navigating extra night wakings, a short nap, or a bedtime that doesn’t go quite as planned.

That doesn’t mean your child has forgotten their independent sleep skills or that your hard work isn’t paying off.

Sometimes we revisit challenges we’ve already worked through, but this time with more skills, experience, and confidence. Every opportunity to practice matters, even when progress isn’t immediately obvious.

Progress isn’t a straight line. It’s a spiral. And that doesn’t mean you’re going backward.

Keep showing up, keep practicing those healthy sleep habits, and remember that one harder night doesn’t erase all the progress you’ve made. 🩵

If you’re new here, hi! I’m Becka 👋

I’m an airway-informed pediatric sleep specialist helping families build healthy, sustainable sleep habits from the newborn stage through age 12.

My work is rooted in behavioral sleep support — naps, night wakings, bedtime struggles, schedules, sleep associations, and independent sleep skills. But I also know that not every sleep struggle is purely behavioral.

Sometimes we change a habit. Sometimes we adjust a schedule. Sometimes we teach a new skill. And sometimes sleep is telling us to look a little deeper.

No one-size-fits-all sleep training here. Just personalized sleep support for your child and your family.

Being a “Sleeper Teacher” makes World Teachers’ Day a fun one for me. But it also has me thinking about all of the people who have taught me throughout my life.

I spend my days teaching families healthy sleep habits and independent sleep skills. And while my version of “teaching” looks a little different, it’s made me appreciate just how much bigger the word teacher really is.

Of course, there are the incredible teachers who show up in classrooms every day and have such an enormous impact on our kids.

But there are also mentors. Coaches. Colleagues. Friends. People who share their expertise, challenge the way we think, encourage us to grow, or introduce us to something that changes the direction of our lives.

And that doesn’t stop when we grow up.

I can think of so many people who have taught me, influenced me, encouraged me, and helped shape the person, mom, and professional I am today. And I’m still learning from the people around me all the time.

We need people willing to teach, mentor, share what they know, and invest in one another more than ever.

So today, I’m extra grateful for the traditional teachers educating our kids — and for all the people who continue to teach, mentor, and influence the rest of us along the way. 💛

And, of course, Happy World Teachers’ Day to my fellow Your Favorite Sleep Coaches!

If your child is struggling with sleep, the answer isn’t always just “they need to sleep better.”

There can be a lot happening beneath the surface — from sleep habits and schedules to environment, development, nutrition, breathing, and more.

I recently wrote a blog breaking down 8 root causes of poor sleep in children and what parents should know when sleep just isn’t clicking.

This is something I care a lot about: building healthy sleep habits while also recognizing when there may be another piece of the puzzle worth exploring.

Want to read it?

Comment “ROOT” and I’ll send you the blog! 💙

Healthy sleep habits are at the heart of what I do.

As a pediatric sleep consultant, I help families build age-appropriate routines and schedules, change sleep associations that aren’t working, and teach children the skills they need to sleep independently.

Sometimes we change a sleep association. Sometimes we adjust a nap schedule. Sometimes we work on bedtime battles or night wakings.

At the end of the day, my goal is simple: help kids sleep better and help families feel confident getting there.
