If your water is not running clear, at first, simply run the faucets on cold for a few minutes.

The Evanston Fire Department has begun flushing fire hydrants throughout the city and will continue through October. Each fire hydrant takes about one hour to flush. Once the hydrants in your area have completed their flushing, please run the faucet on cold for a few minutes until the water turns clear.

Update: Due to the inconsistency of the fire department’s schedule based on calls that come in last minute, an accurate schedule cannot be provided. If you notice your water running brown, please make sure to run your water for 3-5 minutes until it runs clear.
