What a night at Dunkin' Park! ⚾️

Last week, the GreatBlue Research team headed out to cheer on the Hartford Yard Goats, and we couldn't have asked for a better time! Huge thank you to our CEO, Michael J. Vigeant, for setting us up in the DATTCO, INC Dugout Suite, it doesn't get much better than that.

We even got to snap a photo with Chomp himself! And while the Yard Goats fell just short of the win, they gave it everything they had and wrapped up a fantastic season.

We were proud to partner with the team on an in-game fan experience survey this year, and we're excited to see how they put that data to work to make the fan experience even better.

The season may be over, but our partnership is just getting started. We can't wait to keep working with the Yard Goats to bring even more excitement to What's Next with professional sports in Hartford! Go 🐐's!

The end of August always feels like the true start of Q4.

Budgets are getting a closer look. Boards want answers before year end. And 2027 planning conversations are already starting.

One thing we keep hearing from clients:
"We need to understand something we don't currently understand."

Not necessarily more data. Better questions, and a real answer once you have them.
• A member survey that predicts renewal, not just satisfaction
• Raw numbers turned into a story your board can actually follow
• Research design that gets ahead of a decision instead of justifying one already made
• Data that becomes a recommendation, not just a chart

That's where research gets genuinely interesting. Anyone can hand you a spreadsheet. The value is in what comes after: knowing what the numbers mean and what to do next.

The best conversations we've had lately haven't started with "Can you quote this?"

They've started with:
"Here's the decision we're trying to make. What should we be asking?"

Those are the conversations we love. It's also where our team leans in most, senior involvement from day one, and a habit of turning findings into something a board can actually use.

So, leadership teams: as you head into Q4 and 2027 planning, let's talk about what you're trying to figure out.

Proud of our Head of Research, Seamus McNamee, who joined Sacred Heart University’s Dr. Gary Rose on WFSB’s Eyewitness News Extra to discuss the findings from the first Sacred Heart University / WFSB / CTInsider 2026 Gubernatorial Poll, conducted in partnership with GreatBlue Research.

GreatBlue has had the privilege of partnering with Sacred Heart University on this important research. Seamus is a Sacred Heart graduate, as is our CEO, Michael J. Vigeant, PRC Vigeant, so seeing Seamus back at his alma mater, now helping bring this research to life, was a pretty special moment.

And the first wave of findings offers a fascinating look at where Connecticut voters stand:

• They still like living here. But they’re increasingly concerned about what it costs to do so.
• More than 71% rate their quality of life as good or very good, yet 59% say they’re struggling to maintain their current standard of living.
• And affordability clearly rises to the top: 29.4% identify cost of living and inflation as the most important issue facing the next governor, more than twice the share selecting taxes, energy costs, or jobs and the economy.

This is the first of three surveys we’ll conduct through the fall, giving us a chance to track how Connecticut voters’ priorities and perceptions evolve as we move toward the 2026 election.

GreatBlue Research 2026 World Cup Poll: The Results Are In!

We asked, and like always, you answered! From dream champions to realistic predictions, Messi vs Ronaldo debates, iconic jerseys, and a short soccer history quiz, the responses poured in and delivered some fun (and occasionally surprising) insights.

Key Highlights:

As expected, United States dominated as the team fans wanted to win (49.3%) but only 11.6% predicted them to actually lift the trophy (We’re still so upset they lost against Belgium!)

You correctly predicted Messi’s Argentina would go farther than Ronaldo’s Portugal (60.9% vs 39.1%) in what could be the final World Cup for both legends (Good luck to Messi!)

The new 2026 USMNT jersey crushed the classic 1994 design (68.6% to 31.4%)

A lot of people need to study their World Cup history, correct answer rates ranged from 37% to 46.6% across our quiz questions

Quarterfinals kick off today, and with the host nations eliminated, several favorites out early, and others shaky against so-called underdogs, this World Cup has never been more unpredictable! Who are you backing now? Will England relive World Cup glory 60 years later? Will Argentina be the first team to repeat as champions since Brazil in 1962? Will there be a first time winner like Belgium, Morocco, Norway, or Switzerland?

The GreatBlue team had a wonderful time at the 2026 APPA National Conference in Boston last week! There's nothing quite like the opportunity to reconnect in person with friends, clients, and colleagues from across the country who share a passion for public power.

One of the week's highlights? Our own Christopher Biggs had the chance to meet the mayor of Biggs, California! A visit to the City of Biggs may have to happen soon!

We also had the privilege of hearing Mike Eruzione reflect on the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" and the lessons behind one of the greatest moments in sports history. His message aligned perfectly with the spirit of the conference: we're stronger together. By working collaboratively and supporting one another, we can continue to elevate the value and impact of public power in the communities we serve.

A sincere thank you to the APPA team for organizing another outstanding conference. We appreciate all the hard work that goes into creating an event that brings our industry together to learn, collaborate, and build an even brighter future.
