October 27 is World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, recognizing the importance of preserving these records and keeping them accessible to future generations.

Here in Pennsylvania, organizations like our friends at Historic Harrisburg Association help connect communities with their history through preservation, education, and storytelling.

Alongside its work protecting historic landmarks and neighborhoods, Historic Harrisburg shares recordings of educational programs, lectures, and discussions exploring the people, places, and events that have shaped the Capital Region. By making these resources available online, the organization helps more people discover and engage with local history.

Today, we recognize the historians, archivists, preservationists, and organizations working to document, preserve, and share the stories of our communities.

Last Monday, we joined our friends at the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia for Capitol Day, welcoming seven Youth Diplomats representing five schools across Greater Philadelphia to the Pennsylvania State Capitol.

The day began with students learning about lobbying, public affairs, and Triad's work connecting organizations with government and policymakers.

Students then met with House Speaker Rep. Joanna McClinton, Rep. Joe Hohenstein, House Appropriations Chairman Jordan Harris, April Ashe of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, and representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. They were also recognized on the floors of both the House and Senate.

Throughout the day, students shared their career aspirations and raised concerns about public transportation, education, after-school opportunities, and AI's impact on future employment.
These young leaders are the future of Pennsylvania, and we're proud to support opportunities that connect them with government and public policy.

Yesterday, the Pennsylvania Professional Fire Fighters Association (PPFFA) joined Rep. Joe Ciresi, fellow firefighters, fire chiefs and lawmakers at the State Capitol to highlight the importance of HB 2826, legislation aimed at expanding access to cancer screenings for Pennsylvania's firefighters.

Later that day, the bill passed the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, marking an important step forward in efforts to protect those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

Economic stability is influenced by a range of factors beyond income.

Access to affordable housing, education, transportation, healthcare, childcare, and opportunities for meaningful employment can all affect whether individuals and families are able to build financial stability.

On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we recognize the organizations, employers, community leaders, and policymakers working to expand those opportunities here in Pennsylvania.

According to U.S. Census Bureau data, 11.6% of Pennsylvanians live below the poverty line. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania's Housing Action Plan highlights that more than one million households spend over 30% of their income on housing.

Creating pathways toward greater economic stability requires work across sectors — expanding workforce opportunities, increasing access to affordable housing, strengthening communities, and connecting people with the resources and services they need.

From neighborhood businesses and family traditions to industry, food, arts, and community life, generations of Italian Americans have helped shape Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania House recently adopted HR 622, designating October 2026 as Italian and Italian American History and Culture Month and recognizing the cultural, social, and economic contributions of Italian Americans across the Commonwealth.

Those contributions can be seen in Pennsylvania businesses with roots stretching back generations. In Altoona, Italian immigrant Marianna Pulcino arrived in America in 1911, bringing with her a family recipe for pasta sauce. She later established Mom's Cafe, laying the foundation for what would become DelGrosso Foods. Today, the company remains family-owned, carrying its Italian heritage and traditions into a new generation.

The DelGrosso family's story is one of many across Pennsylvania, where generations of Italian immigrants and their descendants have built businesses, created jobs, strengthened communities, and preserved cultural traditions.

This month, we celebrate the history, culture, entrepreneurship, and lasting contributions of Italian and Italian American communities across the Commonwealth.
