When I started my first 401(k) in the early 1990s, I didn’t know much about the stock market.

A few years later, I opened my first AOL account.

At the time, those felt like two completely unrelated moments.

Looking back, they were deeply connected.

One tied part of my future to the stock market.

The other introduced me to the technology investors believed would change the world.

That experience became the inspiration for my newest Signals and Systems article.

It’s really not about stocks.

It’s about how we think about the future, why markets sometimes get it spectacularly right, why they sometimes get it spectacularly wrong, and what today’s AI revolution can teach us about both.

We solved a murder.

Well — tried to.

There were dramatic clues, questionable alibis, very loud accusations, and at least two people on the team who are now permanently suspicious.

These are the kinds of moments we love: everyone off-screen, out of strategy mode, just spending time together and having fun.

Because behind every campaign, deck, strategy, and client call, there’s a team that actually likes working together.
