The 2026 WSG Americas Regional Meeting in Seattle, hosted by Schwabe, concluded this past week with thoughtful discussion and meaningful connection among WSG members.

Friday’s sessions explored behavioral economics and its impact on law firm performance, with insights from Patrick Fuller of ALM and PF Strategies, followed by a forward-looking discussion on AI, governance, and what comes next for law firms and their clients, led by Ryan Calo of University of Washington School of Law.

The meeting concluded with a memorable WSG networking experience, beginning with lunch in the iconic Amazon Spheres, followed by an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of Boeing’s Everett Factory.

We extend our sincere thanks to Schwabe for hosting the WSG Americas Regional Meeting 2026 and welcoming members from 21 jurisdictions and more than 40 firms, as well as bringing together 14 thought-provoking guest speakers—creating meaningful opportunities for discussion and strengthening collaboration across the WSG network.

At the 2026 WSG Americas Regional Meeting in Seattle, gathered to connect and exchange insights, beginning with a Welcome Reception graciously hosted by Schwabe. The reception was inspired by Seattle’s iconic Pike Place Market, followed by dine-around experiences across the city.

The following day’s program brought forward a range of perspectives on the forces shaping today’s business and legal environment. Conversations opened with a look at how growing energy demands and infrastructure limitations are influencing data center development, with Sara Sayles and Brendan Crowley of Schwabe joined by Matt Chambliss of Aligned Data Centers and Alex Spaulding of Jupiter Power.

Discussion then shifted to the in-house perspective, exploring how legal teams in the Pacific Northwest are enabling innovation while managing global risks, where Rebeka Osborne of Expedia Group, Joaquin Hernandez of Aristocrat, Omar Contreras of Identity Digital Inc., James Edwards of Slalom, and Joanie Kim of Starbucks shared how organizations are balancing rapid advancement with risk and regulation, in a session led by Ben Lauritsen of Schwabe.

Later, attention turned to the region’s natural resources and long-term sustainability, with Ryen Godwin of Schwabe guiding a conversation featuring Joseph Nguyen of Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, Hilary Franz of American Forests, and Diane Meyers of Weyerhaeuser.

The program concluded with an interactive discussion on the shifting dynamics within the legal sector, moderated by Darius Hartwell of Schwabe, as Seth Deutsch of Samson Partners Group and Peter Jarvis, Retired Legal Ethics, Law Practice Management & Technology Lawyer, explored how private equity is influencing law firm strategy and growth.

Following the program, WSG members gathered to connect and strengthen relationships in the perfect atmosphere, with sweeping views of the Seattle skyline, Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mountains.

In this URBANIA MEDIA article by Jean Bourbeau, Valérie Belle-Isle, Partner at Lavery, offers key insights on water governance, emphasizing that while Quebec’s regulatory framework provides significant legal protections, these mechanisms remain largely underleveraged in practice. She emphasizes that the future of water commodification depends less on legal tools than on how actively governments enforce them, highlighting the need for more proactive authority amid growing pressure to balance resource management, public interest, and commercial activity. Her perspective reflects a broader global reality in which, across jurisdictions, the persistent gap between regulatory design and implementation continues to shape outcomes in natural resource governance.

In this CNA Today article, Terrence Yeo, Senior Associate at firm TSMP Insider discusses the evolving role of artificial intelligence in reshaping early legal careers, noting that as AI assumes responsibility for routine and tasks, junior lawyers are increasingly able to engage in higher-value work such as strategy, advocacy and complex problem solving. This shift has the potential to make the profession more sustainable and rewarding, particularly for younger practitioners, by accelerating their exposure to substantive legal thinking and client-facing responsibilities. He emphasizes on the broader global transformation within the legal industry, where the integration of AI is redefining traditional training models and prompting a reassessment of the skills required for long-term professional relevance.
