The Indianapolis Office of Corporation Counsel is facing a higher-than-usual volume of cases and is scrambling to find litigators to handle them.

The office, which provides legal services at the city and county level, currently lists seven vacancies in its nine-position litigation division and has been paying for outside counsel to help handle the workload.

The city is raising salaries and trying to recruit more talent, in part by touting the courtroom experience these positions offer.

Standard Insurance Company is asking a federal court to help determine how more than $200,000 in insurance benefits should be distributed in a dispute between an ex-wife and the son of a man who died last fall.

A man who died last fall left different primary beneficiaries, his son and his ex-wife, listed for his life and accidental death policies.

A federal judge sentenced a Columbus man to more than 27 years in prison for sexual exploitation of a child after investigators found more than 600 lewd images and videos of children on his phone.

Federal officials say Andrew Wade Case pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child and distribution and possession of child sexual abuse material.

An Amazon employee is suing the retail giant, accusing it of failing to accommodate her disabilities and leaving her on unpaid leave as she awaits work-from-home approval.

Hendricks County Prosecutor Loren Delp explains Senate Joint Resolution 1, appearing on the ballot this November, and its narrow application to cases involving defendants who present a serious danger to their communities.

SJR 1 follows the same tradition those framers used in 1816 and 1851.
