We’re proud to support the Perry County Literacy Council (PCLC) as they strengthen their organization and plan for a more sustainable future.

Through Spur & Sprout s nonprofit health scan, Heather and Mary worked alongside PCLC’s leadership and staff during a period of significant transition. Together, they took a closer look at the organization’s mission, programs, finances, and capacity; including an important question many nonprofits face: How do you continue helping your community without stretching your people and resources too thin?

One of the biggest takeaways was the importance of focusing on the services at the heart of PCLC’s mission, developing strong referral networks for needs outside its wheelhouse, and prioritizing programs that are fully funded and financially sustainable.

That work is already helping PCLC think differently about what comes next. With greater financial stability as the goal, the organization is looking toward an exciting future that could include purchasing its own building and developing a workforce model and income-generating activities that create greater financial independence.

We’re proud of the work Spur & Sprout has been doing with the West Perry Farmers Market to help strengthen the organization and position it for continued growth.

Through a recent nonprofit health scan, our team took a closer look at the Market’s people, money, programs, marketing, and strategy. From that work, we co-created a plan focused on helping the Market strengthen its outreach and increase engagement; supporting its goal of becoming an even stronger gathering place where the community can connect with local farmers, makers, and producers.

That mission also includes making fresh, locally produced food more affordable and accessible. WPFM accepts SNAP/EBT and Breadcoin and offers special matching opportunities that help customers stretch their food dollars even further; including matching 50% of SNAP purchases, up to $15, on designated Match Mondays.

Spur & Sprout proudly supports the LGBT Center of Central PA as it navigates an important period of transition.

After two years of leading the Center through growth, transition, and challenges, Executive Director Amber Barnes will step down on August 28. The Center’s Board has appointed current Director of Finances Michael Tschop as Interim Executive Director and is partnering with Spur & Sprout in the coming weeks to help ensure continuity of its programs and services.

This leadership transition comes at a particularly challenging time for nonprofits. Shifting federal grant funding and rising operational costs are creating financial pressures for the Center, making sustainable funding more critical than ever. Through it all, the priority remains clear: protecting direct services for LGBTQ+ youth, seniors, and the broader Central PA community and keeping vital safety-net programs, peer support, emergency health funds, and community care accessible.

The community can help by becoming a sustaining donor, spreading the word, and supporting upcoming fundraising efforts—including FAB 2026 on August 22.

Spur & Sprout is proud to stand alongside the Center as it works to protect these essential services and build a sustainable path forward.
