1. You’re talking too fast.
2. Every sentence needs a beginning, middle, and an end.
3. The media is not your audience - they are a vehicle to get your message to the audiences that matter to you.
4. Take a half beat pause before you answer any question.
5. You don’t have to accept the premise of every question you get asked.
6. Don’t engage in hypotheticals.
7. Balance authenticity and polish. Your default should be an 80/20 split.
8. Each answer you give needs to underscore at least one of your key messages.
9. The beginning and ends of your answers are when audience attention is at its peak. Make sure you’ve mapped those moments out.
10.. Anticipate the questions you’re going to get asked and practice your answers out loud.
