We’ll both be at Nonprofit New York’s Annual Conference, and looking forward to reconnecting with everyone in the NYC nonprofit community (photo is us from last year’s conference!)

👉 Nov 6 | AADO Connect 2026 (SUNY Old Westbury)
Brandon heads out to Long Island for a day with development professionals of color, hosted by The African American Development Officers (AADO) Network.

👉 Nov 18 | National Philanthropy Day Celebration (NYC)
Brandon will be at AFP - New York City Chapter Association of Fundraising Professionals - New York City Chapter (AFP-NYC)’s evening with Non-Profits Night Out and Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York (PPGGNY), celebrating with fundraisers from across the city.

One of the most compelling stories in philanthropy is what happens when communities lead the way.

We are inspired by our partner, Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) the Solar and their work alongside Maasai communities in Kenya to expand access to solar-powered cooking. The initiative improves health, supports environmental sustainability, and reflects the value of building solutions with communities, not just for them.

It also highlights an important lesson for philanthropy: meaningful work deserves meaningful storytelling. Sharing the people, partnerships, and purpose behind the work builds trust and strengthens relationships with donors and supporters.

At Parkes Philanthropy, we believe strategic storytelling helps organizations deepen engagement and lasting impact.

We are thrilled to be featured in Simone Joye’s new book, Nonprofits Unfiltered: Money, Power, and the People Who Carry America’s Charities, as one of her “Consulting Firms To Know.”

The chapter offers a candid look at the evolving role of consultants in the nonprofit sector, especially as organizations navigate capacity constraints, fundraising pressure, and the need for specialized expertise.

We’re looking for a new summer intern to join the Parkes Philanthropy team!

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in philanthropy, fundraising, nonprofit strategy, and consulting. Graduate students are preferred.

Our past interns have secured roles in consulting at companies like Accenture, PwC, Goldman Sachs, Neuberger Berman, nonprofits like Right To Play and many more.

We’re looking for someone who is organized, proactive, a strong writer, a relationship manager, and passionate about social impact.

From arts and media to gender equity and youth development, the room reflected the strength of Black-led leadership shaping our city’s future.

Hosted at Black-owned Hav & Mar and supported by Black-owned creative partners, because how we design the room matters.

As we approach Black History Month, the Parkes Philanthropy team is proud to announce the return of Impact Icons, our annual initiative honoring Black nonprofit leaders driving meaningful, community-centered change.

As a Black-owned firm partnering with underrepresented leaders every day, we know how valuable amplification and awareness can be for leaders doing the work.

With that, we’re looking to uplift and amplify the work of visionaries building our future right now. Whether you’re tackling education equity or climate justice, working locally or globally, we want to highlight leaders demonstrating that history isn’t just something we study, it’s something we’re actively creating.
