If ever there was a love letter to the black dress, this year’s Met Gala carpet was it. In a nod to the artist John Singer Sargent - whose work plays a vital role in the new exhibition - long black gowns, many with plunging necklines and architectural silhouettes, were a resounding hit - including our favorite Kate Moss in Saint Laurent They say Sargent helped transform the black dress into the ultimate symbol of modern, high-society chic—tonight’s carpet makes a good case.
