You started a business for more freedom.
Now you work 60 hours a week.
Sound familiar?
You open the shop in the morning.
An employee calls in sick.
A customer has a complaint.
A supplier delivers the wrong order.
Your phone keeps ringing.
And after everyone goes home, you're still catching up on invoices, emails, and tomorrow's schedule.
At some point, you have to ask yourself:
Does everything really need to go through me?
Here are 5 tasks small business owners should consider handing off:
1. Customer service questions
Train someone on your team to handle common questions, complaints, and refunds. Give them clear limits on what they can resolve.
2. Employee scheduling
Let a trusted team member manage shifts, time-off requests, and coverage. You can still approve major changes.
3. Inventory and supply orders
Set minimum stock levels and assign someone to monitor inventory and prepare orders for approval.
4. Invoicing and payment follow-ups
Have someone send invoices, track overdue payments, and follow up with customers. Keep financial approvals under your control.
5. Daily opening and closing tasks
Create a checklist for cleaning, equipment checks, cash reconciliation, and preparing for the following day.
Here's a good test:
If you took three days off, what would stop working?
Your business needs your leadership, but your team also needs the training and trust to make decisions without calling you every hour.
You worked hard to build your business. You deserve time to enjoy the life you're working so hard to support.
What's one task you wish you could take off your plate this week?
