The 2026 vineyard crop is looking lighter than usual. 🍇
In a typical year, we may see two or even three clusters on each shoot. This year, many shoots are carrying only one. The vines themselves look healthy, green, and vigorous — there’s simply less fruit hanging on them.
It’s difficult to point to one exact cause because what happens in the vineyard one year can affect the next. Grapevines store carbohydrates from season to season, and weather during the previous growing cycle may influence how many clusters develop this year.
Grenache appears to be the exception, with another generous crop. But Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah, Pinot Noir, and Primitivo are all looking lighter across the vineyard — and it seems to be happening throughout Paso Robles.
The silver lining? A smaller crop generally ripens more quickly. With early budbreak, flowering, and fewer clusters for each vine to support, the 2026 harvest may arrive earlier than usual.

What’s the difference between WSET and becoming a sommelier? 🍷
The biggest distinction is that “sommelier” is really a job title, while WSET is an educational path focused on wine knowledge.
The Court of Master Sommeliers places more emphasis early on wine service — how to present, open, pour, and recommend wine in a restaurant setting. WSET focuses more heavily on structured wine education, regions, grape varieties, production, and tasting.
As the levels become more advanced, the two paths begin to overlap. Both require serious study, tasting practice, and a strong wine vocabulary, but they often begin with different goals.

The story behind the Fish Portal is one of the wildest in the Sculpterra sculpture garden. 🐟🧜‍♀️
According to the story, John Jagger repeatedly encountered an unusually dense school of fish at the exact same coordinates off Kauai — almost as if they were guarding something.
And when he passed through the “fish portal,” what did he find?
A two-tailed mermaid.
Historically, mermaids were often depicted with two tails before later versions merged them into one. Scandalous? Apparently. Mysterious? Definitely.
And, of course… nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.

A thousand years from now, what will people think when they uncover the White Puma at Sculpterra? 🤍🐆
This sculpture has a completely different personality in every season, which is why it’s worth walking all the way around it for the full 360-degree experience.
And unlike so many things around us, these massive sculptures aren’t going anywhere. Someday, long after dirt has covered the property, someone may uncover the White Puma and assume it was an ancient object of worship.
