St. Patrick's Day, celebrated on March 17th, is a holiday rich in traditions and history. Here are some fun facts about this festive occasion:

1. St. Patrick was not actually Irish. He was born in Roman Britain and was kidnapped by Irish raiders at the age of 16. After escaping, he returned to Ireland as a missionary.

2. The original color associated with St. Patrick was blue, not green. Green became associated with the holiday over time due to Ireland’s lush landscapes and the use of the shamrock by St. Patrick.

3. The tradition of dyeing rivers green started in Chicago in 1962 when city officials used dye to mimic the emerald green of Ireland.
