Honored to be invited to teach real estate fraud prevention to professionals who fight financial crime.

On November 4, I’ll represent Home Fraud Defense at the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI) Arizona Chapter’s Fall Training Seminar at Grand Canyon University.

The day’s speaker lineup includes NW3C, Bret Hood, and the U.S. Secret Service. I’ll share the real estate perspective—how criminals target properties and transactions, warning signs to recognize, and practical ways to help prevent losses.

It’s an opportunity to connect what we’re seeing in real estate with the broader fight against financial crime.

Home Fraud Defense is a nominee for the 2026 Inman Best of Proptech Awards, in the new Cybersecurity and Data Protection in Real Estate category.

One year ago this company didn’t exist. I started it after three damaging fraud attacks came at me in six weeks, including a house I nearly closed on that had been stolen with a forged deed. When I went looking for resources an agent or a homeowner could actually use, I couldn’t find any. So I built them, and I’ve been adding to them ever since.

Today HFD is a one of kind fraud program built for the MLSs and REALTOR associations nationally.

We track the fraud schemes that hit during a transaction and after closing, keep agents current with monthly alerts and training, give them a quick way to check a suspicious message or contact, and send their clients a plain-language notice at the start of a deal and again after closing, with a dated record of every notice kept. Our consumer tools are free.

Nobody gets to a nomination like this alone. Thank you to everyone who has taken a call, hosted a class, made an introduction, or compared notes on a case over the past year.

Those conversations shaped what HFD is today, and I’m grateful for every one of them.

Winners are announced Thursday, October 29. However it turns out, I’m glad to see fraud in real estate get a category of its own. It has been overdue.
