California businesses are already navigating high costs and an increasingly complex regulatory environment. AB 1776 would create even more uncertainty by fundamentally changing the state’s antitrust laws and exposing businesses of all sizes to costly new litigation.

The California Chamber of Commerce has launched a statewide campaign highlighting the potential consequences—including higher consumer prices, fewer discounts and price-matching programs, increased compliance burdens and threats to California jobs.

California cannot afford policies that make it harder for businesses to compete, grow and create opportunities.

California can protect communities, public health, and the environment without putting responsible small businesses at risk.

SB 811 was created to address real concerns around large metal shredding facilities, but a one-size-fits-all approach could place unnecessary burdens on small, locally owned metal recyclers that operate very differently.

Small recyclers help keep valuable materials out of landfills, support local jobs, and serve communities across the Central Valley.

The solution is simple: mend SB 811, do not end it. Target the problem, protect public health, and keep responsible small businesses open.

California businesses deserve a fair chance to fix accessibility issues before being dragged into costly litigation.

SB 84 would give business owners 120 days to correct an ADA violation before a lawsuit can proceed — a commonsense reform that passed the Senate 34-2. Yet despite overwhelming bipartisan support, the bill is now stalled in the Assembly without a hearing.

In Sacramento alone, one plaintiff filed 47 ADA lawsuits in just three years, with average settlements of around $14,000 — much of it going to attorneys rather than improving accessibility.

Real accessibility improvements matter. Lawsuit abuse does not.
