Aircraft Accessories (an FAA Approved Repair Station RV3R829L) was founded in 1959 in Tulsa OK, by B.H. Popplewell a.k.a "Pop" and his friend Jay Gentry. Starting in an old house the business has grown to cover more than a 10,000 SF facility. Providing sales, service and overhaul on a wide variety of engine accessories from fuel systems to electrical items; even propellers. We are a major distributor for Weldon Pump. Some customers say thanks with a 5-star review. One known only as the mysterious “Dr. K” recently sent Alan a bottle of Jack Daniel’s after he helped with a project.

After nearly 30 years with Aircraft Accessories of Oklahoma, the gift was well deserved. Alan has been called our Secret Service agent—or even 007—for his valuable ability to track down rare parts and hard-to-find application information for customers throughout the general aviation community.

Alan took some Jack home and said it had been quite a while since he’d had any, but it was even better than he remembered. Cheers to Alan and the tremendous service he continues to provide our customers!

Years ago, McCauley made an illustrated booklet outlining the top 10 “thou shalts” and “thou shalt nots” of propeller care, along with answers to 16 basic questions owners and operators should know (but may be embarrassed to ask 👀)

The booklet was prepared in the interest of “happier, safer and wiser flying.” It may be old school, but the commandments are no less valuable:

1. Read and respect your owner’s manuals…know where to obtain service
2. Visually inspect the prop before each flight
3. Don’t rev the engine over loose particles
4. Don’t use prop blades as handles
5. Use oily rags for wiping…don’t hose the prop
6. Clean and wax blades often…repaint as required
7. Recondition prop when necessary
8. Check blade track periodically
9. Make thorough visual inspection yearly (or every 100 hours)
10. Follow overhaul recommendations

A few decades later, proper propeller care still comes down to the same basics: inspect it, protect it, service it properly—and don’t pull on the prop to move your plane.

This week recognizes aviation pioneers like the Wright brothers, Charles Lindbergh, and Amelia Earhart, plus the continued contributions of the thousands of pilots, mechanics, engineers, and manufacturing specialists who keep this industry airborne.

Aircraft have changed dramatically since the Wright brothers’ flight in 1903, but aviation still depends on skilled people solving problems and keeping every component ready for flight. ❓I need a specific component for my aircraft, but I don’t know the part number. Where can I find it?

There are three easy ways to figure out exactly what part you need:

1. Check your aircraft maintenance manual. The manual should be your first stop—it typically includes detailed diagrams and a list of part numbers for every component.

2. Visit the manufacturer’s website. Many aircraft manufacturers provide online parts catalogs or support pages that can help you find what you need by aircraft model and type.

3. Call us. When in doubt, just tell us your aircraft model and type, and we’ll identify the right part for your application.

Meet Charles, one of our Prop Shop Specialists

“I’ve been in this industry for about 20 years, and a lot of my time has been spent working on Hamilton Standard propellers and putting together the T-28 props.

There’s something special about knowing most of these props are going on aircraft that are still out flying, not sitting in a museum.

Helping keep classic planes and warbirds in the air is the best part of what I do, and it’s a privilege to support the restoration of older aircraft so the next generation of pilots can enjoy them.”

We have a number of Hamilton Standards come through the shop every year, and Charles does an exceptional job on every one of them. Nice to see his good work keeping these classic planes airborne!
