How do you make a difference when you’re not the one calling the shots?

That’s a question many HR professionals face, and one that P&PG’s Luke Freeman explored at this year’s NNAHRA conference!

In his session, “Soft Power: How Tribal HR Leaders Can Use the Science of Social Power to Move from Afterthought to Strategic Leader,” Luke challenged attendees to rethink what it means to have influence within an organization.

Because influence isn’t always about where you sit on the organizational chart. Sometimes it’s about the relationships you’ve built, the trust you’ve earned, and your willingness to ask the questions no one else is asking.

Like, “What problem are we actually trying to solve?”

From exploring the six bases of power to learning how to navigate difficult conversations and get to the root of organizational challenges, the session was all about helping Tribal HR professionals step more confidently into their roles as strategic leaders.

The P&PG team is headed to Buffalo, New York, for the 57th Annual NIEA Convention & Trade Show, October 7–10.

This year’s theme, “Strength in Community: Building the Future Together,” celebrates the collective work of Native educators, students, Tribal leaders, and advocates to move Native education forward while honoring sovereignty, language, and identity.

We’re looking forward to learning, connecting, and spending time in community with people from across Indian Country throughout the week.

The best part of being at NNAHRA? The conversations.

Conferences give us the opportunity to learn and share ideas, but what we value most is the chance to connect with people face-to-face.

Throughout NNAHRA’s 30th Annual Conference, our team spent time catching up with longtime friends and partners, meeting new people, and having meaningful conversations with Tribal HR professionals and leaders from across Indian Country.

These moments of connection are a big part of why we love getting out on the road. We learn from one another, hear what organizations and communities are navigating, and build relationships that continue long after the conference ends.

We had so much fun at NNAHRA 2026! 🌺

It was an honor to join the National Native American Human Resources Association in Honolulu as they celebrated 30 years of leadership, culture, and connection.

Our P&PG team—Luke, Hannah, Kim, Tina, and Ben—spent the week learning, reconnecting with longtime friends and partners, meeting new people, and having meaningful conversations with HR professionals and Tribal leaders from across Indian Country.

We were also proud to have Luke Freeman take the stage to share Soft Power: How Tribal HR Leaders Can Use the Science of Social Power to Move from Afterthought to Strategic Leader.

We’re heading home grateful for the conversations, connections, and community, and already looking forward to the next time we can gather together.
