Every second counts during a cardiac emergency.

CPR & AED Awareness Week serves as an important reminder that bystander intervention can make a life-saving difference. When someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases with every minute that passes without CPR or defibrillation. Knowing how to respond and having access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can help bridge the gap until emergency medical personnel arrive.

CPR helps maintain blood flow to vital organs, while an AED analyzes the heart's rhythm and, when appropriate, delivers a shock to help restore a normal heartbeat. Together, these tools can significantly improve survival outcomes.

For public safety professionals, emergency preparedness is a daily responsibility. Law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, telecommunicators, school resource officers, and many others are often among the first to respond when a medical emergency occurs. Their training, quick thinking, and ability to act under pressure save lives every day.

This week is also a great opportunity for all of us to ask:
✔️ Do I know how to perform CPR?
✔️ Do I know where the nearest AED is located?
✔️ Is my CPR certification current?
✔️ Would I know what to do in an emergency?

The more individuals who are prepared to respond, the safer our workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, and communities become.

This CPR & AED Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to learn, refresh, or renew these critical skills. You never know when the knowledge you gain today could help save a life tomorrow.

As part of our ongoing Reflections from the Team series, we're continuing to highlight the people behind The FMRT Group and the perspectives that drive our work each day.

This week, we hear from our Chief Operating Officer & Managing Member, Jennifer Beauchamp, as she shares why she believes the work FMRT does is so important.

For Jennifer, the impact of our work extends beyond evaluations, reports, and services. It's about helping agencies make informed, defensible decisions while supporting the well-being of their personnel and the communities they serve.

Her reflection serves as a reminder that every interaction, recommendation, and service provided contributes to a larger purpose—supporting safer organizations, stronger teams, and healthier outcomes for those who dedicate their lives to public service.

Stay tuned as we continue sharing reflections from team members across FMRT and the values that inspire the work we do.

Today, on National SAFE Day, we recognize the importance of responsible firearm ownership and the role safe storage plays in preventing avoidable tragedies.

The Brooklynn Mae Mohler Foundation established National SAFE Day in memory of 13-year-old Brooklynn Mae Mohler, who lost her life in a preventable shooting involving an unsecured firearm. The day serves as a reminder that firearm safety begins with awareness, education, and responsible practices.

The SAFE acronym highlights four simple but important actions:
S – Secure all fi****ms in the home.
A – Ask about unsecured fi****ms in homes your children visit.
F – Frequently talk to children about the dangers of fi****ms.
E – Educate and Empower others to practice firearm safety.

For public safety professionals, firearm safety is reinforced through training, policy, and accountability. For families and communities, it starts with conversations, preparedness, and responsible storage practices. Research and safety advocates consistently emphasize that many accidental shootings involving children occur in homes where fi****ms are not properly secured.

Today is an opportunity to review your own safety practices, ensure fi****ms are securely stored, and have important conversations with family members about firearm safety. Small actions can make a significant difference in preventing tragedy.

🚲 Today, on World Bicycle Day, we recognize not only the many benefits of cycling, but also the dedicated public safety professionals who serve their communities from the seat of a bicycle.

Bike patrol units have long played an important role in public safety. Their mobility allows officers to navigate areas that may be difficult for vehicles to access, engage more directly with community members, respond quickly in crowded environments, and maintain a visible presence in neighborhoods, parks, downtown districts, and special events.

Beyond enforcement, bicycle patrol officers often serve as ambassadors for their agencies, creating opportunities for meaningful interactions and relationship-building that strengthen community trust.

Whether patrolling city streets, community events, greenways, or public gathering spaces, these professionals demonstrate the adaptability, approachability, and commitment that help make communities safer every day.

Today, we extend our appreciation to the officers and public safety personnel who continue to serve on two wheels. Thank you for your dedication to protecting and connecting with the communities you serve.
