The conference brings together professionals involved in criminal justice education and training across North Carolina, making it a great opportunity to connect with those helping prepare the next generation of public safety professionals.

With our staff together at HQ, we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to step away from our desks, grab a treat, and enjoy some time together. Between evaluations, reports, client support, meetings, and everything that keeps FMRT moving, moments like these give us a chance to simply connect as a team.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and remarkable achievements of Hispanic and Latino communities, reminding us how these contributions strengthen the fabric of our shared communities.

From September 15 to October 15, we’re especially proud to recognize the Hispanic and Latino professionals who serve in public safety roles across law enforcement, fire and rescue, EMS, corrections, communications, emergency management, and beyond. Their unique perspectives, leadership, and dedication help shape safer, more connected communities.

Representation matters. When public safety teams reflect the diversity of the people they serve, it builds trust, fosters understanding, and strengthens relationships between agencies and the communities they protect.

A uniform can look different depending on the day, the assignment, and the role, but what it represents often stays the same.

On National Uniform Day, we’re recognizing the public safety professionals we have the privilege of working alongside. We see you fully equipped and ready for duty. We see you in department polos and agency-branded shirts when you stop by our booth at a conference. We see you in training attire, special-team gear, dress uniforms, and everything in between.

Each may serve as a different kind of uniform, representing an agency, a profession, and a commitment to serving others.

We appreciate the law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, corrections personnel, dispatchers, and other public safety professionals who represent their agencies every day, whether the uniform includes a badge and duty belt or simply an embroidered agency logo over the heart.

Today, we recognize the people behind those uniforms and thank you for the work you do in your communities. 💙

Cowboy boots, community connections, and a shared commitment to public safety. 🤠💙

The FMRT Group’s Keyla Springs, Ashley Rattigan, and Elizabeth Morris recently traded their usual workday attire for their cowboy boots to attend the Beyond the Badge Gala, benefiting the Winston-Salem Police Foundation

The evening brought together community leaders, businesses, officers, and supporters to invest in programs and partnerships that strengthen public safety throughout Winston-Salem. Funds raised through the Foundation help support initiatives focused on community outreach, youth engagement, innovation and technology, and officer support and wellness.

Those priorities closely connect with the work we value at FMRT. Supporting public safety means investing not only in the professionals who wear the uniform, but also in the resources, relationships, wellness initiatives, and community connections that help them succeed throughout their careers.

We were grateful for the opportunity to step outside the office, connect with others who share that commitment, and support an organization investing directly in a safer, stronger Winston-Salem.

And, of course, any event that calls for cowboy boots is a good reason to get the FMRT team together! 🤠

D.A.R.E. has changed a lot since its first classroom lesson but one idea has remained important: helping young people build the skills to make safer, healthier decisions.

Founded in 1983 through a partnership between the LAPD and Los Angeles Unified School District, Drug Abuse Resistance Education began with uniformed officers entering classrooms to educate students about substance use while creating opportunities for positive interaction between young people and law enforcement.

As research challenged the effectiveness of D.A.R.E.’s original approach, the program evolved. Its modern curriculum, keepin’ it REAL, moved beyond the lecture-heavy “Just Say No” model toward an evidence-informed approach emphasizing decision-making, communication, emotional self-control, resistance strategies, and other skills young people can use when navigating real-world situations.

That evolution offers an important lesson for public safety: effective prevention requires a willingness to learn, adapt, and improve.

D.A.R.E. officers also serve in a unique role. Their work provides young people with opportunities to interact with law enforcement outside of an emergency, enforcement action, or other difficult circumstance. Those relationships can help students see officers not simply as responders, but as educators, mentors, and members of their communities.

On National D.A.R.E. Day, we recognize the officers, educators, researchers, schools, families, and communities working together to help young people develop the skills and confidence to make healthy decisions.

To the D.A.R.E. officers stepping into classrooms and investing in the next generation: thank you for making education and prevention part of your public safety mission. 💙
