The last grapes are in, the presses have slowed, and harvest at Hartenberg has come to an end.
This yearβs vintage also marks a milestone for our Head Winemaker, Reynie Oosthuizen, who has just completed his first harvest with us. We asked him to share a few reflections from the season.
My first harvest is done - 2026.
It was a windy, dry start to the season, and the expectation was for a concentrated, high-quality vintage. That expectation was met, with stunning Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc coming in during the second week of February.
This was followed by very fruitful reds. The Merlots have all been pressed and are showing great structure, while the Syrahs and Cabernets are still fermenting - but the expression of fruit is excellent. I truly believe my maiden vintage at Hartenberg is going to be one I will not forget.
