Every vintage our cattle receive the ultimate treat…grape skins fresh from the press, full of flavour and conveniently delivered to the paddock. It’s perfect recycling. And in this case, with Cabernet Franc skins, a pretty good food match.

More pics in praise of our Cabernet vines and fruit…it’s such a pleasure to grow and make wine from. Thick skinned berries on loose bunches keeps disease at bay and a late season like this one is no obstacle with these warm, sunny days. The fruit can hang and wait for just the right moment to pick. The 2026 Yeringberg will be something quite special.

Today’s first Viognier pick, giving us the full gamut of bunch personalities. Lots of hen and chicken, the little berries are seedless and delicious.
We’ll pick more Viognier over the next two weeks, at different ripeness levels. For us, Viognier really shines with that range of characters across the ripeness spectrum.

Guill, in the winery today for his 54th Yeringberg vintage, on exactly the same spot he rang the bell for the renaissance of winemaking here in 1973.
Everything is new, everything is old, times rolls on like farm dogs, autumn mists and the ticking of fresh ferments.

First pick this morning and vintage 2026 is away and running! Chardonnay from our Old Vineyard on the north east side of our Yeringberg hill, just a short tractor ride up to the winery. Beautiful looking (and tasting) fruit!

After more 160 years here, we are used to change…maybe not on the scale of the rest of the world, but still significant for us.
Since 2020 we have been planting new vineyards at Yeringberg with a number of aims…firstly, there is the inevitable risk of Phylloxera and the need for vines on resistant rootstocks…and then there is climate change. Our new Quarry Hill Pinot Noir block shown here ticks both boxes. A mixture of MV6 and Abel clones, grafted on to resistant rootstock and positioned on a cooler south facing slope, traditionally a rare practice in the Yarra Valley, but becoming a very good option for early ripening varieties.
So far the results have been very encouraging and even in this very hot summer, the vines are thriving. They are too young to feature in our immediate Yeringberg label plans (the fruit is currently sold to others) but in time we know how good this fruit will be. It’s all down to adapting to change and, fingers crossed, reaping the benefits.
