📣 UNDER 8s ORIENTATION GUIDE for 2027
Welcome to Robina City !
We have compiled the below to welcome you to our club for the season and to answer frequently asked questions about under 8s:
1. Players turning age 8 in 2027 are Under 8s. If the player is a female and wants to play in all female competition choose Under 9 Girls when you register (girls play in two-year age competitions eg Under 8/9 Girls but on Squadi it will most likely appear as Under 9 Girls).
2. Please register your child as soon as possible once registration opens to ensure you get a place. You can register on-line from early January (keep an eye on our club page for updates throughout November and December and watch for the post to advise registration is OPEN). A registration guide will be posted in December. Please read that guide and the FAQs post which is pinned to the top of the page already https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Lg5ED1Qy8/
3. We will host Come and Try Clinics on 5 December, 9 January, 16 and 23 January if you want to try before you register. You do not have to trial to obtain a place. Please go this post https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CAHXz4eYZ/
4. We plan to have 6 teams of 10-11 players in this age group, with 7 players on the field at any time. Two of these teams will be by selection only and referred to as Under 8 Pre-Academy/Kangaroos, for the most advanced players playing advanced teams from other clubs. We have already conducted selection trials and remaining places will be filled during our phase 2 trials in January (if this of interest to you keep an eye out for updates). Our Under 8s are the first step in the advanced pathway to play in the FQ Academy Leagues where Robina City are one of less than 40 clubs across Queensland who participate. In 2026 we will have Under 10-18 Boys, and Under 11-18 Girls participate in those leagues.
5. The standard registration fee for the season will be $575 approximately including 2 training sessions per week, Saturday games, and one playing jersey and one training jersey to keep. Club shorts and socks together are $40 and we will advise when they are available to purchase. Jerseys will be handed to Team Coaches to distribute after teams are formed. Under 8 Pre-Academy is an additional $220 for higher level coaches and greater involvement with our full-time Technical Directors.
6. Saturday games are usually over by midday and are ‘home and away’. Players are requested to attend their game a minimum of 30 minutes before the start time to greet their coach and to warm-up.
7. Saturday mornings are a fantastic atmosphere at our club. Hang around and enjoy the canteen and the camaraderie. On a standard Saturday we host 30-40 matches.
8. All players not selected in the Pre-Academy teams are requested to attend a MUSTER on either Friday 29 January or Saturday 30 January at 830 (to be confirmed) which is when teams will be formed. We will be seeking a coach and manager for each team. Training is Wednesdays and Fridays at 430 unless your coach requires a later start or alternative days.
8. Coaches are provided with all the training gear they need, and a coaching apparel kit (Nike polo, Nike jacket, ICON shorts and Club hat). We have a coaches page to learn from our TD and others, and a WhatsApp chat will be set up with other coaches from that age group. Our Community Technical Director will deliver model sessions for you to copy and learn from. We are also hosting a Grassroots coaching course in mid to late February conducted by Football Queensland. This is free of charge.
9. The first game is scheduled for Saturday 6 March.
10. When you purchase your Soccer Boots make sure you wear your football socks as they are thicker than normal socks. You will also need to purchase shin pads.
11. We are largely a volunteer run community club and encourage all players and parents to be a part of their club and volunteer during the season.
12. Your Under 8 Coordinator is Josh Black at [email protected]. If you are interested in coaching or managing or you have formed a team already please let him know before the Muster (as early as possible if you are organised ahead of time).
Thank you and welcome again
