An Award or pay question comes up.
You need to recruit.
A difficult conversation needs to happen.

Flexible working arrangements are becoming increasingly common — but does an employee have an automatic right to work from home or change their hours?

Not necessarily.

There is an important difference between an employee having a right to request a flexible working arrangement and having an automatic right to approval.

Employers also have a process they need to follow when considering eligible requests, including consultation, considering reasonable alternatives and, where applicable, responding within the required timeframe.

In our latest article, we look at:

✔️ What flexible working arrangements actually are
✔️ What they are not
✔️ Who can make a formal request
✔️ What employees should include in their request
✔️ What employers need to consider
✔️ Reasonable business grounds for refusing a request
✔️ Working-from-home considerations
✔️ The 21-day response requirement

We’ve also developed a practical Flexible Working Arrangements Employee Guide and Request Form to help employers put a clear and consistent process in place.

👉 Read the full article and find out how to better manage flexible working arrangements in your workplace.

12 YEARS OF AHR!

Today we're celebrating an important milestone — 12 years of Assurance HR Management.

AHR started in Tasmania in 2014 with just one person and an idea to provide businesses with practical, straightforward help when workplace problems arise.

Fast forward 12 years and Tasmania is still our home and where the majority of our clients are based, but today we're proud to support businesses across most states of Australia, backed by our core team and a growing network of consultants, advisors and specialists.

A huge thank you to our clients, referral partners, team and everyone who has supported AHR along the way. You have all played a part in our journey.

We've come a long way since 2014 — and we're certainly not finished yet!

Here's to the next chapter. 🥂

Has Your Business Actually Implemented the 1 July Workplace Changes?

Many employers know workplace laws changed from 1 July...

But knowing about the changes and actually implementing them are two very different things.

Have you reviewed your:
✔ Employment Agreements?
✔ Award rates and classifications?
✔ Payroll processes?
✔ Workplace policies?
✔ Superannuation obligations?
✔ WHS documentation?
✔ Manager responsibilities?

A missed update today could become an expensive workplace dispute tomorrow.

We've put together a practical guide explaining what Australian employers should be reviewing now—and why waiting until Fair Work or an employee identifies a problem is simply too late.

Read our latest blog (link in the comments) and see whether your business is as compliant as you think.

If you'd rather spend your time running your business than trying to interpret changing workplace laws, Assurance HR Management can help. Our team can review your HR, Industrial Relations and WHS systems, identify any gaps and give you confidence that your business is protected.

An Employee Has Stopped Coming to Work... Now What?

Can you assume they've resigned?

Many employers believe there's a "three-day rule" that automatically means an employee has abandoned their job.

That's a myth.

Getting it wrong could expose your business to an unfair dismissal claim, legal costs and significant stress.

Our latest blog explains:
✅ What abandonment of employment actually means
✅ What the Fair Work Commission looks at
✅ The steps every employer should take before making a decision
✅ How the right employment contracts and workplace policies can help protect your business

If one of your employees has disappeared, don't guess—get advice first.

We've included the link to the full article in the comments below. We'd love to hear your thoughts or answer any questions you may have.

💰 Minimum wages are increasing from July 2026 – but are you sure you know when the changes actually apply?

Many employers assume wage increases start on 1 July. In reality, the increase applies from the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 July 2026, which could mean a different implementation date depending on your payroll cycle.

There is also more to consider than just hourly rates. Award allowances, penalty calculations and other payments may also be affected, while businesses paying above award rates should review whether increases are required and how to communicate this to workers.

To help you navigate the changes, we've prepared a practical guide explaining:
✅ When the increase starts
✅ What a pay cycle actually means
✅ Which workers are affected
✅ What employers need to do
✅ How over-award payments may be impacted
