AI vs AUTHENTICITY
Let’s take a look at Nike.
One of the most recognisable brands in the world. Behind that iconic swoosh sits decades of creative thinking, design expertise and meticulous attention to detail.
Do you think Nike would leave its entire brand identity to a few AI prompts?
Of course not!
Yes, Nike uses AI. But it also invests in talented designers who understand that great design is about far more than making something look good.
Nick Mennell recently used this analogy with a client and it resonated - It’s the difference between amateur and professional.
Anyone can pick up a tool, but knowing how to use it doesn’t automatically make you an expert.
AI has made creating visuals easier, faster and cheaper than ever before. And that’s brilliant in many ways.
But are we starting to confuse the ability to generate an image with the skill and craftsmanship of good graphic design?
Cost is obviously a consideration for businesses, particularly smaller ones. But good graphic design doesn’t have to cost the earth, and getting it right can make an enormous difference to how your business is perceived.
We’re actually going through this very process ourselves at Pocket Rocket Group.
As we work on the next iteration of our brand identity, we’ve played around with AI, explored ideas and tested a few creative directions.
But who’s bringing it all together?
YES! A real human graphic designer. 🎨
Someone who understands our business, our heritage, our personality and what we’re trying to achieve.
Because we still believe in the art, craft and value of good design.
AI absolutely has its place. Even Nike recognises that.
But for us, AI is a tool in the creative process, not a replacement for creative talent.
What are your thoughts. Is AI making us more creative, or are we, in our haste to embrace it, putting the art of great design at risk of extinction?
