“Philanthropy has the freedom to take risks that others cannot.”

Lady Edwina Grosvenor is among the expert speakers at our Talking Philanthropy London forum next month, presenting ‘Systemic change through philanthropy in practice’. Drawing on her work in women’s justice reform through initiatives such as Hope Street, a pioneering community-based alternative for justice involved women, she has demonstrated how philanthropy can intervene directly in complex systems, using patient, values-led investment to deliver tangible, lasting change.

“A crusade for women” — championing female talent decades ahead of its time.

On International Women’s Day we remember Dame Stephanie Shirley, child refugee, technology pioneer and one of the most influential philanthropic voices of her generation.

In 1962 she founded F International, creating professional opportunities for women in technology long before flexible working entered the mainstream. The company went on to become a major success, yet she always described its founding purpose simply as “a crusade for women.”

Global Philanthropic was honoured to recognise her extraordinary leadership when she received the Talking Philanthropy Award from at our 2018 forum.

Her memoir, Let It Go, is a compelling account of resilience, leadership and purposeful giving and a remarkable read.

Today we honour Dame Stephanie Shirley and deeply miss a voice that combined courage, generosity and an unshakeable belief in women’s potential.

How do families keep their values alive while everything around them changes?

In this fourth episode of our The Philanthropic Wealth Transfer series, remarkable philanthropists and philanthropic leaders pull back the curtain on what legacy really means, and it’s far more than a will or a foundation deed.

They talk about the quiet work: conversations at the family table, councils that keep everyone aligned, the courage to ask awkward questions, and the belief that giving with intention matters more than scale.

It’s a candid, thoughtful and very human look at how generosity is shaped across generations. Watch the full episode here:
