WHO ELSE IS NOSEY? I love seeing behind the scenes and usually go straight to the About page on any website. Here’s my “behind the scenes” - I’ve worked from home for 13 years and there is where it ALL happens. This teeny space has to pack a lot in as it serves as both my office, Zoom room and art studio (hence all the storage boxes!). Tag me in your workspace photos, I’d honestly love to see. PS finally got the neon light from up which looks so good it made me take photos.

I love having a dog but it has to be said that walking her in the rain and mud, daily baths and a filthy car for the last few months has had its down sides. But then spring arrives and it is just perfect. What a completely beautiful day to sit on a bench with a coffee, throwing a ball and watching her joy.

Everyone knows emails render differently in each email client right? And on individual browsers. And on different devices. That’s a lot of margin for error!

So how one Gmail user views your email is going to vary wildly from how an Outlook user is seeing it. A Mac user is going to see things differently to a PC. You get the gist…

Here’s where testing comes into its own. And it’s a game of trial and error, believe me, I’ve done enough of it.

When we’re testing we’re looking out for unwanted spaces, text that’s too bunched up, image distortion or errors, broken links and sometimes just a ‘feeling’(!).

If this is all new to you, get in touch. I’m a Mailchimp Pro Partner and whether you need a 1-2-1 training session or a Zoom Helpdesk for a quick fix, I’m here to help.

Testimonials. Do you have a “process” for consistently collecting them? And then using them?

I generally do but it does fall by the wayside sometimes so there’s definitely room for improvement.

Author Robert Cialdini talks about the phenomenon of “social proof” - in short, it means that people copy the behaviour of others in order to feel they are doing the ‘correct thing’.

So, while there are many reasons to collect testimonials, one of the most compelling is that they make wonderfully authentic, persuasive content for your emails and social media.

And given how important reviews are for your business, it’s definitely in your interest to actively collect and use them, rather than waiting for organic reviews.

And once you have a system in place to collect regular reviews, don’t just bury them on a testimonials page on your website - pro-actively use them. Including them in your marketing emails will remind everyone how great you are and build trust in your brand.

If you want to be really snazzy about it, you could automate the process of requesting them so that you don’t need to remember (I can help you with that)…

2 exciting things are happening today!

Firstly I’m being interviewed by Mailchimp’s CEO Rania Succar for an hour long live "Lunch and Learn" staff webinar together with my lovely client . We did a brilliant project together at the end of last year as part of Good Morning Britain's 1 Million Minutes drive to recruit volunteers for the charity, and worked together to bring volunteers on board using Mailchimp after they'd responded to the TV campaign to pledge their time.

And secondly I’m running a workshop this evening at to help some small business owners see how they could better use email marketing, newsletters and all that jazz. It’s on Zoom if you fancy coming - let me know and I’ll send you the booking link.

Going to be pumped but pooped later I suspect!

Ooh I do love swag. Even more exciting when it arrives in a big box all the way from USA. I’m so proud to be on the Customer Advisory Board this year, working with a small but perfectly formed global team of Mailchimp’s leaders, partners and customers to make the offering even better. We met for the first time last week on Zoom, and have been told our next one is in person - kinda curious where that will be as we’re located all over the world!

Today we’re talking about the importance of accessibility.

More than 1 billion people in the world live with a disability so accessibility is absolutely critical to ensure that everyone can access and interact with all your content, including your email marketing. Of these, 285 million are visually impaired and may use a screen reader. I’m in my late 40s with pretty good eyesight and still struggle sometimes.

So, aside from the obvious morality and necessity of ensuring everyone can access your content, it also makes good business sense to make sure your emails are easily interpreted.

Here are my 6 top tips for making your email marketing as accessible as possible.

Descriptive subject lines - think brief but informative so someone can choose where to open the email

Use left alignment in your text - it’s much easier on the eye than central alignment

Keep key points in the body of your text rather than in infographics or images - wording in images is often TINY when viewed on a mobile, and they are often not read or interpreted by screen readers

Always complete your Alt text (alternative text) in each image in your email. This is a brief description of an image for recipients who can't see them. Keep it short but descriptive.

Of course you want to make your emails “pretty”, but also think about the text size and how well the text colour contrasts with the background. It doesn't matter how visually appealing your email is if the message is lost.

Accessibility is good for all your readers - applying the principles of it make your content more logical, readable and better for everyone.

If you need a helping hand making sure your content is accessible I’d love to help. Head to the ‘Contact’ page of my website to book an appointment.

You probably already know that it’s International Women’s Day today. Thankfully it’s hard to miss it these days. I couldn't let it pass without mention because women, and specifically “mums in business”, have been such a big part of my journey as I moved from employment and the “rat race” to having control of my own destiny.

As well as doing all things Mailchimp, I was proudly at the helm of MIB (Mums in Business) Network for 13 years before hanging up my hat at the end of 2022. I don't think I’ll ever stop feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to meet so many wonderful, inspiring, talented and courageous women in business over the years. We’ve raised each other up, cheered each other on, shared knowledge, ideas, experiences, and supported each other when things weren’t so good.

Here are just a fraction of some of the incredible women I am blessed to know: If I’ve not tagged you, it’s just because this post was running the risk of getting waaaay too long, but know that you’re very much part of this list.

Last but very much not least, is my amazing 14 year old daughter @‌ponypuddings who has had her own business since she was 9. I am beyond proud and inspired by how she is already shaping her own destiny, strong enough to know her mind and not take cr*p off anyone!
