Two years after Helene, countless businesses in the Asheville area and Western North Carolina are still operating because our leaders have showed up for us. 🙌

At the Chamber, we've seen firsthand the incredible difference that recovery funding has made in neighborhoods like the River Arts District and Biltmore Village and in communities like Swannanoa. The federal dollars we've gotten have made a tangible and remarkable impact.

But the job isn't finished. We need more federal funding.

Federal funding so far covers about 18% of Helene's estimated damage in North Carolina, and Congress hasn't appropriated new Helene recovery funding since December 2024. We're calling on Congress to help finish the job by supporting Governor Josh Stein's most recent request for approximately $10 billion, which will further WNC's recovery. 🌄

Camaraderie is just one of the (many) perks of joining Optimist Ventures. 🤗

Our 2026 cohort is a little over halfway through their entrepreneurial accelerator program, and suffice to say that they're picking up all kinds of useful skills. These range from soft skills, like networking and relationship-building strategies, to hard ones, like those covered during last week's meeting reviewing the EOS Worldwide system (and a huge shout out to Patrick O'Cain at The White Fawn Group for leading the session!) 📑

This program puts founders first, and these accelerator sessions are just one way that the program is investing directly in our region's future. 🌄

A special thanks to these Optimist Ventures participants for sitting down with us to talk about their experience in the program thus far:

🥤 Benjamin Colvin from Devil's Foot Beverage Co.

We're proud to endorse the two Buncombe County bonds on the ballot this election, and we're thankful that Clark could speak with Vote Yes on Bonds about why they matter to our county's future! 👍

D.R. Horton Asheville is building a new community in Candler that'll make you feel right at home. 🏡

We recently visited their new Rolling Hills community for a ribbon cutting ✂️, and we left seriously impressed by their team's commitment to quality. These new homes incorporate smart technology — like video doorbells, app-based garage and door controls and voice-activated lighting features — that make life more convenient. We're excited that the Asheville area has committed businesses like this helping to improve the housing supply in WNC. 🙌

As we enter the season of gratitude, we at the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce are grateful for all of the progress we've made toward recovering from Tropical Storm Helene. ❤️

Billions of dollars have been dedicated for rebuilding critical infrastructure, helping folks get back into their homes and supporting local businesses. The work, as we well know, is far from over. We appreciate the continued efforts of our elected officials in advocating for more funds and ensuring that WNC remains on the road to recovery. 🌄

The future of Western North Carolina remains incredibly bright because of the hard work and continued advocacy done by NC’s elected officials. Governor Josh Stein has asked Congress for about $10 billion to finish the job, and we hope our congressional delegation will help get it done.

✨ Spotlight on Healing Roots Design ✨

The team at Healing Roots Design wants to strengthen local ecology and create abundance for generations. 🌲

It’s a collaborative, ecology-first landscape partner that brings deep consultation, thoughtful design, expert installation and ongoing stewardship together in one relationship. And unlike many conventional landscapers or plant-focused installers, Healing Roots Design considers the whole system: the people, the place and the future of the land. 🌄

We recently spoke with Keri Evjy, the founder, owner and CEO of Healing Roots Design, about the philosophy behind her company, the entrepreneurship lessons she learned from her father and the connections she hopes to inspire between people and nature.
