Your business may be holding onto more customer data than it needs: old payment information, outdated records, or files from clients who left years ago.

Every unnecessary record creates another opportunity for sensitive information to fall into the wrong hands. Regularly review what you store and securely delete anything you’re no longer required to keep, starting with outdated payment details.

When it comes to protecting customer data: You can’t lose what you don’t have.

The face on your video call might not be real. Deepfakes can now fake a familiar face and voice live, and people have been talked into wiring out fortunes. If someone on a call pushes you to move money fast, verify another way first. Call them back on a number you already have.

Your password may be strong, but how secure is your password reset process?

Cybercriminals don’t always need to guess or steal your password. They may try to take over your recovery email or use personal details from social media to answer security questions.

Treat your recovery email like a master key:

🔐 Turn on multifactor authentication
📧 Use a recovery email that is well protected
❓ Never use real answers to security questions - generate random answers and save them in a password manager
🗝️ Store your backup recovery codes somewhere safe
👀 Limit the personal information you share publicly

A strong password protects the front door. Make sure the spare key isn’t sitting outside.

Your team could expose client data without clicking a dodgy link.

All it takes is pasting it into the wrong AI tool.

There probably won’t be any bad intentions behind it.

Maybe it’s a tool they already use at home.

Maybe they haven’t been given an approved alternative. Or maybe nobody has explained what they can and can’t upload.

They get their answer, close the tab and carry on working.

You may never even know it happened.

That’s Shadow AI, and your business could be at risk because of it.

If you want to keep Shadow AI from taking over your business, we’ll give you an AI Acceptable Use Policy template to help you put some sensible rules in place.

That slow old laptop your employee is putting up with is costing you more than a new one would.

It's easy to treat a computer as something you only replace when it dies. As long as it still switches on, a new one feels like money you don't need to spend.

Every slow start-up in the morning, every wait for a file to open, every frozen call someone has to drop and rejoin is a couple of minutes gone.

It happens over and over, all day, to everyone stuck on an old machine. Add it up across a year and it's well past the price of a new laptop.

And that's before the frustration, or the fact that old machines stop getting security updates, which makes a slow computer a risky one too.

You don't have to replace everything at once. Just look at how old your team's computers are.

Around the three or four year mark is usually where a machine starts costing you more in lost time than a replacement would.

Ask your staff which computers drive them mad and they'll tell you straight away.

Your IT provider can also point out which ones are near the end of their supported life, since those tend to be both the slowest and the least safe.

Found a USB drive in the parking lot? Think twice before plugging it in. ⚠️

A malicious USB drive can install malware as soon as it’s connected - or disguise itself as a keyboard and run commands without your permission.

If you didn’t buy it or don’t know where it came from, don’t connect it to your computer. Turn it over to your IT or security team for safe handling.

When in doubt, don’t plug it in!

New EU AI transparency rules took effect on August 2, 2026 - and they may affect businesses outside Europe, too.

Under the EU AI Act, certain AI generated or manipulated content must be identifiable. This includes deepfakes and some AI generated text about matters of public interest that is published without human review or editorial oversight. AI providers also have requirements for machine readable markings.

If your business serves the EU market or uses AI generated content that reaches people in the EU, now is a good time to review your practices and speak with a legal or compliance professional about what applies to you.

Your phone isn’t just a phone - it’s a pocket sized work computer.

It may contain the same company emails, files, contacts, passwords, and client information as your laptop, but mobile devices often don’t receive the same level of protection. If your phone is lost, stolen, or compromised, your company’s data could go with it.

Take a few simple steps to protect it:

🔒 Use a strong screen lock, PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition
🔄 Keep automatic software and security updates turned on
📲 Download apps only from the official app store
📍 Enable device tracking and remote wiping
☁️ Back up important information regularly
✅ Use multifactor authentication on work accounts

Whether the device belongs to the company or is part of a bring your own device program, mobile security should be part of your cybersecurity plan.

Protect the phone in your pocket like you protect the computer on your desk.

Your email security can probably catch a suspicious link.

A QR code is harder.

That's why scammers have started hiding their links inside QR codes. The code is just an image, so the filters that scan for bad links can't read it. And the moment someone scans it, they're on their phone, away from the protection on their work computer.

Microsoft saw QR code phishing jump 146% in the first few months of 2026. The usual setup is a fake “scan to keep your account active” email, often with the code tucked inside a PDF.

Find out how to spot them, plus the one thing to check before you scan anything:
