Fall brings a surge of local community events, regional trade shows, university kickoffs, and charity galas. For businesses and non-profits alike, these events represent a high-value opportunity to make a tangible, personal impact within your community. However, in an event hall crowded with vendor tables, standard digital ads and generic flyers easily get lost in the noise. To dominate local events, your physical print collateral must carry weight, texture, and immediate local relevance.

WE KNOW! It feels early to think about Q4 events while the end-of-summer is still lingering. However, September is the critical launch window for holiday marketing success. Waiting until October or November to organize year-end appeals, corporate gifting, or Q4 direct mail drives up production costs and risks missing peak delivery windows. The key to a stress-free fourth quarter is establishing your timelines and lock-in inventory today.

When a prospect or client checks their mailbox, you have roughly two seconds to capture their interest before your message is sorted into the “trash” or “treasure” pile. Plain white envelopes with standard black window addresses have become the universal signifier of bills, solicitations, and junk mail. To break through that mental barrier, top-performing marketers know that envelope design is not an afterthought—it is the front door of your direct mail piece.

Seventy-seven years ago, the Houston business landscape looked vastly different. Before the skyline we know today took shape, Business Extension Bureau (BEB) was already at work, meticulously compiling the Harris County Business Guide. Back then, we were a data company with a simple mission: helping Texas businesses find each other.

As we celebrate our 77th Anniversary, we’ve been doing a lot of reflecting. We’ve thought about our evolution from those early directory pages to the sophisticated, multi-channel marketer we are today.

Preparing a high-donor direct mail campaign for the 2026 year-end requires a shift from mass-marketing to bespoke stewardship. For donors who contribute significantly, the mailer shouldn’t feel like a solicitation; it should feel like an exclusive “insider’s report” on their investment.

For health-based nonprofits, August is the strategic “handoff” month where programmatic summer activities transition into the most intensive fundraising quarter of the year. Because health causes often tie their primary campaigns to specific awareness months (like Breast Cancer Awareness in October) or the tax-driven “giving season” in December, August is the time to finalize the data and creative infrastructure.

Here is what health-based nonprofit marketers should be working on in August 2026...
