Tableau Agent now lets users ask questions in natural language inside a dashboard and get immediate insights, available in beta on Tableau Cloud in the 2026.2 release.

The other theme of the period was the semantic layer. Alteryx extended certification and sensitivity labels to datasets, Tableau brought Semantic Model Builder to general availability, and Salesforce now enforces semantic models and row level security on every governed query. Different platforms, one idea.

Agentic analytics fails without it. An agent is only as trustworthy as the definitions and permissions beneath it, and a governed semantic layer is where those definitions and permissions live.
