DOYLE is honored to be featuring a selection of works by Romain de Tirtoff, aka Erté, in the June 9 Doyle+Design auction from the Collection of Herbert Cooper.

Erté was a visionary artist who brought the elegance of the Art Deco era to life. Best known for his fashion illustrations, costume designs, and sculptures, he transformed imagination into art with flowing lines, dramatic forms, and exquisite detail.

From his iconic fashion-inspired prints to graceful bronze sculptures and beautifully illustrated publications, each piece captures Erté’s extraordinary vision and lasting influence on design and decorative arts.

A desk that tells the story of a nation.

This Federal inlaid mahogany tambour desk, made in Boston circa 1795, descended directly through the family of Paul Revere and remained in their possession for more than two centuries. More than a remarkable piece of furniture, it served as the command center of Revere’s business empire, where records were kept, correspondence managed, and decisions made.

A rare opportunity to acquire an object connected to one of the most iconic figures in American history.

Leading off a selection of Irish Modern Art from the collection of Joseph M. Murphy, offered in our May 20th sale of Important Fine Art, is this elegantly rhythmic Cubist work by Evie Hone. A pioneer of Synthetic Cubism, Hone is credited with helping to bring Modern Art to Ireland. Having studied in Paris, first under Andre Lhote (two of whose works are included in this sale) and then Albert Gleizes, who had a significant influence on the trajectory of her career. Although Gleizes rarely accepted pupils, Hone, together with her friend and fellow artist Mainie Jellett, succeeded in gaining admission to his studio. Today, Hone’s work is held in major collections including the National Gallery of Ireland, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Hugh Lane Gallery, Ulster Museum and Crawford Gallery.
