Jessica Lyonford The Happiness Architect. Building People Infrastructure to create StayPower™. People require infrastructure. The Happy Skills™ are how you build it.

Let's get to work. I’m a Happiness Revolutionary, on a mission to redesign how we live, work and lead, one person, one team, one community at a time. Because burnout isn’t leadership. Disconnection isn’t culture. And we were never meant to numb our way through a life that doesn’t feel like ours. I help people reclaim joy as a strategy—for leading teams, raising families, building communities and c

reating systems that actually work for all of us. Through coaching, consulting, workshops and my podcast The Unhappy American, I challenge the cultural myths that keep us overworked, underfulfilled and stuck in survival mode. This is more than a productivity hack. It’s a full-on happiness revolution. Rooted in science. Fueled by energy, engagement, and impact. Designed for a future where people thrive. Ready to rethink how you lead, live and show up in the world?

Three books. One shelf. And a LEGO wedding arch that my kids definitely had nothing to do with. 🧱💐

Here's who each one is for.

The Happy Leader Playbook is for the leader who is done performing and ready to actually design how they lead.

The Unhappy American is for the person who has done everything right and still feels like something is missing.

The Happy Rebels is for the rebel-hearted leader raising a rebel-hearted kid. Science-backed. Kid-approved.

One for the leader. One for the culture. One for the next generation.

My face was on a jumbotron in Kansas City a few weeks ago.

I wasn't even there.

The first women's-only pro sports stadium in the country. An event celebrating small business owners dedicated to women and women's sports. And apparently The Happiness Architect made the cut.

I'll take it.

LFG.

It wasn't the money.
It never is.

Your best people left because they ran out of belief. Belief that leadership would change. That feedback would land. That the culture was going somewhere worth staying for.

Money was just the story that was easier to tell in the exit interview.

You don't have a compensation problem. You have a People Infrastructure problem.

DM me the word INFRASTRUCTURE if you're ready to build something worth staying for.

Today is my birthday. And you all showed up for me in the best way.

Thank you. Genuinely. Every message, every comment, every voice memo and text landed exactly the way you intended it to.

This is me at Wonderwood Springs, one of the many reasons we fell completely in love with this city when we moved here this past year. It's basically a playground for imagination. Which felt like exactly the right place to land on a birthday.

43 years in and I have never felt more aligned. More clear. More excited about what's being built.

Gratitude is one of The Happy Skills™ for a reason. Today I'm practicing it fully.

Thank you for being in my world. 🧡🌈

Thursday is my birthday.

And in past years I might have blocked the day, turned off notifications and done absolutely nothing productive.

This year, the universe had way better plans.

Because this Thursday my calendar has four events. Two with the incredible Suzanne Castle and the powerhouse women in her world. One with Megan Ziemba Bozzuto and the amazing International Association of Women community. And one with the Strategic Oracle herself, Kim Woods, who pours into leaders in ways that simply have to be experienced.

On my birthday.

I didn't plan this. I promise. But I'm definitely not mad about it.

If you're going to spend your birthday doing something, spending it with rooms full of high-capacity women who are building amazing communities is not exactly a hardship.

This is what divine alignment feels like.
And I am here for every single second of it.

Happy birthday to me. 🎂🧡

I went to a business retreat last week.

We did all the business things. Strategy. Momentum. Big conversations. There may or may not be a guest appearance on a new TV talk show in my future. More on that soon.

But that's not what I want to talk about today.

I haven't laughed that hard in years.

Loud, ugly, can't-catch-your-breath laughter. The kind that sneaks up on you in the middle of a serious conversation and refuses to stop. A dozen powerhouse women, real work, real stakes. Ad also, somehow, that.

We talk a lot about high performance. We talk about culture and engagement and retention and all the things that matter. And they do matter.

But we forget that laughter is data too. It's a signal that people feel safe, seen and genuinely connected to the humans around them. That the room is real, not just functional.

Find yourself people you can laugh with. Loudly. When things go right and when they fall apart. When you're exhausted and when you're on fire. When you need each other and when you didn't know you did.

That's not a nice-to-have. Honestly, that's the whole thing.

Most organizations have infrastructure for everything except their people.

Energy. Water. Data. Transportation. Finance. We engineer all of it with redundancy, durability and long-term performance in mind.

And then we wonder why the humans inside our organizations keep breaking down.

For decades we've treated human performance as a given. As a resource to be deployed, managed and replaced when depleted. The cost of that assumption is no longer invisible. It shows up in burnout rates, thinning leadership pipelines and the quiet exit of your most talented people.

This is not a people problem. It is a design problem.

People Infrastructure is the organizational design discipline that fixes it. Not a wellness program or a culture initiative but the foundational layer underneath all of those things. The behavioral and organizational architecture that determines whether people can bring their best to work consistently, without depletion.

I've spent years building the framework that makes it measurable, trainable and scalable. Today I'm naming the field.

Ten copies of The Happy Leader Playbook headed to Dallas next week.

VIP gifts for an event I'm speaking at and honestly there is no better feeling than knowing these are going into the hands of leaders who are ready to do something different.

This is why I write. This is why I speak. Not to fill a room but to change what happens when people leave it.

DFW, I'm coming. 🧡

She downloaded the meditation app. Bought the journal. Took the vacation.
Still felt off.

Because happiness isn't something you find. It's something you build. Skill by skill. Rep by rep.

That's the whole premise behind The Happy Skills™. Eight behavioral skills—not traits or personality types—that you can actually train for. Confidence. Curiosity. Optimism. Gratitude. All of it measurable. All of it learnable.

You don't need another app. You need a practice.

Start with one skill. Pick the one that feels most out of reach right now. That's probably the one doing the most damage.

Leadership is a muscle.
The Happy Skills™ are the reps.
Let's start training.
