Celebrate everything, no matter how small it is.

Got the kids to school on time with no traffic? That counts. Made 4 phone calls you had been avoiding? That counts. Whatever it is, mark it.

Then, after you have celebrated, look at whether anything went wrong today and ask how you would fix it so tomorrow runs better.

That order matters. Most people skip straight to what went wrong and then wonder why the work feels thankless. Reflection is huge, but it lands better on the other side of a win.

Here is the piece missing from almost everybody's to-do list. Time estimation.

You know the routine. You write down everything you need to do tomorrow, stream of consciousness, and then the next day finishes with one thing crossed off and you are upset about it.

But look at what you actually wrote. You may have jotted down 15 hours of work when you had 90 minutes total between your meetings. How exactly was that supposed to happen?

The list was not the problem. The estimate was missing.

How does a leader decide what actually deserves their time?

Start with what you are responsible for. The mission of the company. The mission of the department you run. The responsibilities of your actual position.

Then sort everything arriving at you against those three. Does this support the mission? The department? This job responsibility?

If a task lands in none of those slots, ask whether it needs your brain power at all, or whether it belongs with someone on your team whose talent fits it better.

How does your Friday afternoon usually sound?

If it is "where did my time go?", that is the tell. It is a backward-looking question about time you cannot get back, and it usually comes with the feeling that the week ran you instead of the other way around.

There is a better one: where does my time need to go next week? That question is strategic and proactive, and it is the step in Mind Before Minutes I call overall time distribution. Run through what you actually accomplished, what is coming down the pipeline, what absolutely has to get done, and whether there is a priority you can pull forward so you are genuinely ahead rather than even.

Same fifteen minutes on a Friday afternoon. Completely different Monday.

Which question do you catch yourself asking?

When I ask a room to show me their time blocks, somebody always holds up a completely empty calendar and laughs.

They are partly joking. Mostly they are serious. Their days feel so reactionary that they do not believe they control any part of them.

Here is what changes when you add even a little structure. You start asking where you want your time to go next week instead of wondering where it went. Your brain notices when one area is eating everything, and pulls attention back to what is falling through the cracks.

And the most important block is the one you leave empty on purpose, because something unexpected is coming.

Who is at the top of your priority list?

Mine is me. That is not selfishness, it is sequencing. My good night's sleep goes in first. My healthy meals go in first. Because if I am not healthy, nothing else on that schedule gets done well anyway.

Then the rest. If your kids are a priority, they go on the calendar. If your spouse is a priority, that goes on the calendar. Then you start building the business day around all of it.

Schedule around your priorities, so you do not forget what they are.

On the days when the fire drills will not stop coming, do one thing before you do anything else.

Pause. Take the breath. Then say it, out loud if you can get away with it. I will tell my time what to do.

Say it again. I will tell my time what to do.

I know exactly how that sounds when the day is already on fire. Say it anyway. That power has been sitting there the whole morning. Most of us just forget to reach for it.

A while back the headline ran everywhere. The LA Times. The Boston Globe. The London Daily Mail. "Scientific proof women multitask better than men."

Ladies, we knew. But being a nerd, I clicked through to the actual study.

Here is what it said. Give men and women the same single task and they perform at exactly the same level. Give them two high-level brain tasks at the same time and men's productivity drops by 74 percent.

So the headline was not really about women being better at multitasking. It was about what happens to any brain asked to do two demanding things at once.

Ever hear someone say "I work so much better under a deadline"?

What they are actually saying is "I love it when cortisol gets dripped into my body," because that is what is happening when you are stressed.

Over the long term that drip brings high blood pressure and cognitive slowdown. So the pressure you think is sharpening you is quietly slowing your brain down.

Working well under pressure is not a personality trait worth protecting. It is a habit worth replacing.

Karla asked whether you can photograph your office, hand it to AI, and get an organizing plan back.

Honest answer, I have not tested one yet, so I am curious about the accuracy. What I would expect is the pattern we have already seen elsewhere. The free tier is decent. Behind the paywall it gets noticeably better.

There are already AI tools for interior design, so organizing advice is not much of a stretch. I might photograph my own desk later and see what it tells me.

What I would not hand over yet is my schedule. That is closer to human level judgment than the tools are.
