I recently became aware that my Master’s dissertation has been cited in peer-reviewed literature. What matters to me is not the citation itself, but the reminder that applied, context-aware research can continue to inform both policy thinking and implementation.

In areas such as digital health, where innovation and policy-making must evolve together, this reinforces the value of grounding decisions in evidence that reflects real system realities.

We’re still accepting applications for 2026’s PgDip programme, but time is running out on 30 January and the annual summer school is taking place in the week of 2 February, so it’s time for action.

I’m pleased to share that I’ve completed the PMI Essentials: M.O.R.E. – Maximizing Project Success course, grounded in Project Management Institute’s Maximizing Project Success research.

What resonated most is the reframing of project success - not as delivery alone, but as value that is worth the effort and expense.

The M.O.R.E. framework challenges project professionals to step up in four critical ways:

Manage Perceptions. Own Project Success. Relentlessly Reassess. Expand Perspective.

Our work should be viewed through a broader lens; considering enterprise impact, as well as environmental, societal, and ethical dimensions.

The module strengthened my ability to:

- Apply strategic thinking and business acumen by analysing organisational context, competitive positioning and business impact.

- Demonstrate entrepreneurial leadership within constraints, identifying opportunities, creatively managing resources and driving innovation despite limitations.

A timely reminder that project professionals are uniquely positioned to deliver transformative impact not only within organisations, but across the communities we serve.

"The PgDip has helped me to liaise with stakeholders in a professional manner. It has also equipped me to discuss HIV/Aids-related matters not only on a medical level but also sociopolitically, broadening my influence as a medical doctor in different sectors in society.”
— Dr O’Brian Anthony Davids, PgDip alumnus and Africa Centre governing board member

On this World AIDS Day, I’m reminded of the power of perseverance.

Despite disruption, setbacks, and changing realities, the work of those who came before us has paved every step we take today. Their efforts, sacrifices and unwavering commitment will never be in vain.

As we continue advancing access, equity, and innovation in HIV prevention and care, may we hold onto the truth that we shall overcome — together, with resilience and purpose.
