National Careers Week 11-17 May

The Born to Build team visited Seaford Secondary College during National Careers Week to host a panel of speakers, including reps from PEER, ATEC - Adelaide Training & Employment Centre: RTO code 0022, Milne Projects and HPG Homes.

The panellists discussed the many opportunities available to school students considering a pathway in the trades and all the benefits of a career in the building and construction industry in SA including getting paid to learn, nationally recognised qualification and secure employment.

The demand for skills is only increasing, so planning a career in the trades is a very good move!

As Employer Partner for the Building and Construction pathway, Born to Build is proud to partner with Technical Colleges and Bloom Leadership to deliver a four-part leadership workshop series for students at Tonsley.

The first session encouraged students to explore different leadership approaches, reflect on their own strengths, and consider the important role leadership plays both on-site and throughout life.

Tom Jonas is excited about the collaboration “…bringing industry leaders into schools reinforces an important message for students: leadership is not just a school concept, but a critical skill for success in business, employment, and entrepreneurship.”

Benjamin Dening, Industry Program Lead - Building & Construction at Tonsley Tech College said “The Bloom Leadership session was a great entry point to build discussion with our students and helping them understand how they are led by those around them and how we all have leadership opportunities every day. The accessibility of the content was a big positive from my end, as students were using it in our discussions later in the day."

Last week was a massive week for the Born to Build SA team! 🏗️
We spent three incredible days at the Adelaide Careers Expo, and the energy was off the charts. It was a privilege to connect with the next generation of builders, makers, and doers.

The Highlights:

• 13,000+ Students: We saw a huge turnout of students eager to see where a career in building can take them.

• A Full House: It wasn’t just the students - we had great conversations with parents, teachers, guardians, and career changers looking for a fresh start.

• Future-Proofing: Our team spent the 3 days guiding students through subject choices and schooling paths to ensure they’re ready to hit the ground running with an apprenticeship.

• Pathways for Job Seekers: We shared the "need-to-knows" on prerequisites and the application process for those ready to jump into the industry right now.

Students from Cleve Area School visited Master Builders yesterday! The Born to Build team gave the Year 10 class a presentation about working in the trades, and trade pathways. Then they all participated in hands-on activities, including building a staircase, hanging a door, and fixing a tap to a sink.

They all proved to be naturals, and we hope we’ve inspired them to consider a future career in the trades!
