Season 3 of The Black Box of Media Podcast continues on 23 June with Episode 13 featuring Katrina Campbell, EVP of Marketing and Communications at Nucleus Network.

THIS is where the AI conversation becomes practical.

Not AI as a shiny new tool.

Not AI as a vague efficiency promise.

But AI being used to solve a real bottleneck inside a real business.

In this short clip from the upcoming episode, Katrina talks about NORA, the Nucleus Online Recruitment Agent.

NORA helps participants move through pre-screening and trial matching, reducing 7.5 to 12 minutes of manual processing per lead.

That matters when the business is managing a recruitment funnel moving thousands of leads a month.

But the benefit is not just speed.

It is a better participant experience, better data, better personalisation and better use of the recruitment team’s time.

The full episode goes inside Nucleus Network’s 10,000 to 20,000 lead monthly funnel, why eligibility checks were creating a ceiling on recruitment capacity, Salesforce Data Cloud, AI agents, cost risk, lead quality and what happens when AI, data, CRM and media collide inside a high-volume commercial funnel.

NO FLUFF.

Episode 13 launches on 23 June.

Mumbrella360 brought some big conversations to the surface.

AI is accelerating.
Measurement is becoming harder to manage.
And the CMO role is being rebuilt in real time.

Here are 3 reflections worth paying attention to.

1. AI is the new pressure test.

AI will expose the strength of your marketing operation very quickly.

If your strategy is unclear, AI will create more noise.
If your data is messy, AI will move faster in the wrong direction.
If your brand is weak, AI will make you more forgettable, not more memorable.

The real question is…

“Is our marketing ecosystem strong enough for AI to improve it?”

If the answer is NO, fix the SYSTEM first.

2. Measurement needs better feedback loops.

Most marketers do not need another dashboard full of meaningless data.

They need data they can trust, connected to THEIR outcomes and the brand and commercial results they need to achieve.

If marketing cannot clearly explain what is working, what is not, and where the next dollar should go, someone else in the business will make that decision for them.

3. The CMO role is changing.

The modern CMO is no longer just managing brand, media, creative or performance.

They are being asked to connect the whole growth system:

Customer insight.
Creative effectiveness.
Media investment.
Technology.
Measurement.
Commercial outcomes.

All of it needs to work together.

For many businesses, this part is still a bit of a MESS. But cleaning it up is what will unlock the efficiency, profitability and full-funnel view marketers need to deliver stronger results.

Bottom line…the marketers who win from here will be the ones who bring clarity, control and commercial confidence to the chaos.

EPISODE 12 OF THE BLACK BOX OF MEDIA PODCAST IS NOW LIVE!

What does it take to transform an iconic Australian brand while the business continues operating at full speed?

Lauren Drummond, former CMO of Sydney Fish Market, knows firsthand.

She helped lead an $830 million transformation while managing a business that included a $170 million wholesale operation, 40 retail vendors, tourism, hospitality and multiple stakeholder groups.

Most people see the finished result.

What they do not see are the years of tough decisions, competing priorities and commercial accountability required to get there.

In this episode of The Black Box of Media, Lauren shares:

→ Why she moved early on the rebrand despite the pushback

→ How she balanced heritage with the need to evolve

→ What it takes to lead through uncertainty and transformation

→ How marketers can build real commercial credibility at the executive table

One insight stood out for us:

Commercial credibility is not given to you with a title. It is earned through understanding how the business makes money and having the courage to make decisions when the path is not obvious.

If you are a marketer, business leader or CMO navigating change, this episode is packed with lessons you can apply immediately.

A huge thank you to Lauren for sharing the journey so openly.

Season 3 of The Black Box of Media Podcast continues on 9 June with Episode 12 featuring Lauren Drummond, former Chief Marketing Officer at Sydney Fish Market.

This story is a captivating one...

An $830 million transformation for an iconic location.

A brand with 155 years of formal trading heritage that needed a refresh.

Multiple stakeholder groups to manage.

And a business generating more than $170 million in annual turnover that could not afford to lose commercial momentum while all of it was happening.

In this clip, Lauren touches on a topic that is becoming increasingly important for marketers:

Commercial credibility.

Because marketing leadership today is about much more than campaigns, communications and brand stewardship.

It requires an understanding of business performance, growth, risk, stakeholder management and an ability to unlock better commercial outcomes from every dollar spent.

A huge thank you to Lauren for sharing her experience and insights so openly and generously.

Marketing is changing faster than most teams can keep up with.

AI is evolving rapidly, consumer expectations continue to shift and new technologies seem to appear almost weekly.

These were some of the themes explored at Marketers Day Sydney, presented by The Marketing Club (TMC) on May 21, where UEC Founder and CEO Aleisha McCall joined a panel of industry leaders to discuss the future of marketing.

One thing became very clear throughout the discussion:

The marketers who succeed over the next few years will not necessarily be the ones using the most tools.

They will be the ones who continue learning, adapting and evolving alongside the industry.

We've unpacked some of Aleisha's key insights from the panel in our latest article.

We’ve just launched Episode 11 of The Black Box of Media Podcast featuring Bernadette Olivier, Founder & CEO of The Volte and Seamlist ✨

And this conversation touches on one of the BIGGEST challenges modern brands are facing right now:

How do you grow a category when customers are not even searching for it yet?

As Bernadette explains in this clip, most marketing over the last few decades has been search driven and keyword driven.

But when you are building new consumer behaviour from scratch, that changes everything.

You cannot just rely on existing demand.

You have to create it.

This episode goes deep into:
• customer acquisition costs
• retention and lifetime value
• building demand from zero
• top of funnel strategy
• scaling without a traditional internal marketing team
• and how The Volte shifted from constant acquisition pressure to sustainable growth

A huge thank you to Bernadette for such an honest and insightful conversation.

Season 3 Episode 11 of The Black Box of Media is live.

Aleisha McCall sits down with Bernadette Olivier (The Volte + Seamlist) to look at what it takes to build a brand in a category that doesn't have an established search volume yet, without a marketing team, and with a funnel that wasn't functioning the way anyone thought it was.

The shift: from almost every customer being new to over 50% of orders from existing ones. What changed wasn't the database. It was how the business thought about it.

The conversation also covers the $331 blended customer acquisition cost for Australian consumer brands, why the Cotton On ""Resell to be Rewarded"" campaign is one of the more practical circular economy models operating in Australia right now, and the Hoodoo Gurus analogy that reframes how any brand should be thinking about its existing product range as an acquisition channel.
