Working alongside Indigenous communities, we recognize the ongoing importance of practicing openness, listening and humility. Seeking out Indigenous voices and engaging with Indigenous-led resources is one of the ways we put these values into practice.

Trust can’t be rushed; it’s earned through ongoing presence.

For our client, Snuneymuxw First Nation, that meant shifting from episodic media engagement to a more deliberate, relationship-based media strategy.

Instead of only engaging journalists when there was a major announcement, the Nation maintained a consistent presence, sharing context, clarifying priorities and building relationships over time.

From this, media coverage increased and, most importantly, became more accurate, balanced and aligned with the Nation’s long-term community goals.

The difference between organizations that sustain trust and those that lose it, isn’t budget or volume. It’s the discipline to show up consistently, stay true to your values and make space for real relationships.

We are proud to share that we have been named a finalist in PR Daily's () Nonprofit Communications Awards in the Community-Nonprofit Partnership category for our collaborative work with the (TTA).

This recognition celebrates excellence in mission-driven communications that inform communities, build trust and inspire action through strategic storytelling, creative campaigns and purposeful outreach.

As the second recognition of our partnership with TTA, this is a deeply meaningful milestone — one that reflects the care, integrity and commitment at the heart of this work.

Winners will be announced, and finalists celebrated, on September 30, 2026, in New York City.

In April 2024, we had the honour of supporting ʕaaḥuusʔatḥ (Ahousaht) First Nation in their ʔahʔiiḥčp ʔukʷił ʔiqḥmuut (Honouring Our Ancient Ones) Project.

This community-led initiative sought to locate missing children from the Ahousaht and Christie Indian Residential Schools through archaeological research, advanced scanning technology and oral testimony. Throughout the project, the priority was to communicate with care, transparency and cultural integrity.

Our support included:
- Media relations materials: Event social media guide, project social media content, presentation template, community notice, media monitoring and outreach, day-of-support and media process guide.
- Strategic communications: key messaging and FAQs

The impact:
- Built and maintained a media list of 123 contacts.
- Engaged 59 media outlets and 20 local and regional institutions.
- Secured 10 stories published across 28 local, regional and international outlets.
- Supported communications surrounding three public statements issued by a BC minister, a neighbouring First Nation and an Indigenous organization.

Our role was to support, not speak for the Nation. By walking alongside the project team, we ensured respectful storytelling that centred community voice and truth.

Crisis communications shouldn't begin when the crisis does.

With communities across BC currently facing an active emergency, our thoughts are first and foremost with those affected, displaced and responding on the ground.

It’s also an important reminder that effective crisis communication begins long before an emergency happens.

During a crisis, communication has a different purpose. It’s less about polished storytelling and more about sharing timely, accurate information that people can easily understand and act on.

Preparation matters. Clear roles, trusted channels, accessible information and an established communications plan can help organizations and communities respond with greater clarity and care when circumstances change quickly.

We’re sharing a few resources that may be helpful in strengthening your own emergency communications planning, as well as organizations providing recovery and evacuation support to communities currently affected.

For eight years we have worked alongside the Te’mexw Treaty Association (TTA) building communications capacity in support of its member Nations as they move through the BC Treaty Process.

TTA is a non-profit society formed by five Coast Salish Nations: Beecher Bay (SC’IȺNEW̱), Malahat, Snaw-naw-as (Nanoose), Songhees and T’Sou-ke.

Our partnership has brought together a range of communications tools and engagement approaches, including printed materials, virtual sessions, in-person gatherings, a comprehensive members’ portal and structured opportunities for members to connect directly with negotiators, Nation leaders and legal counsel.

The result is a communications approach that does more than provide consistent, up-to-date information. It strengthens understanding, builds confidence and supports members in meaningfully participating in decisions that will shape the futures of their Nations.
