In the Twin Lake Reservoir in Ohio, U.S., 3,400 solar panels float on small docks, generating electricity to power a local water treatment plant.

“Across most of the Midwest, and in Ohio in particular, agricultural land is a critical piece of the economy - you don’t want renewable energy and food production fighting each other for the same acres,” says Stetson Tchividjian, managing director of D3Energy, the company responsible for the site. “Floating solar resolves that equation.”
