A pair of ‘Diplomat’ sofas by John Home for Howard Keith (HK Furniture London). With their striking low-slung profiles, cylindrical chrome legs and original ‘Eighth Star’ flame-stitch upholstery, the sofas are wonderful examples of the bold approach to colour, pattern and form that defined British interiors of the period.

Howard Keith was an important name in post-war British furniture design, producing progressive contemporary pieces from its London workshops and collaborating with designers including John Home.

The sofas come from the estate of an architect in Somerset, who designed his family home in the 1960s and furnished it with a carefully considered collection of contemporary furniture and objects.

Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Melplash Show yesterday – it was wonderful to see so many of you!

One of our younger visitors took a particular liking to this 1960s Murray Tot-Rod style child’s pedal car, finished in British racing green and complete with Shell fuel decal, AA badge and Civil Air Ensign.

If you missed us at , we’ll be out and about again at on 5th and 6th September. You’ll find Duke’s near the Members’ Entrance, around the Main Arena.

A set of eight Model 71 teak dining chairs by Niels Otto Møller for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik.

Founded by Møller in Aarhus in 1944, J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik became celebrated for combining traditional cabinetmaking with the clean, refined forms of Danish Modernism. The Model 71 was introduced in 1951 as one of Møller’s earliest chair designs and helped establish the international reputation of the family-run workshop.

With their distinctive curved backrests, tapered teak legs and paper-cord woven seats, this set of eight is offered in our forthcoming Interiors & Design auction.
