Great ideas rarely come from one perspective alone.

Different experiences, backgrounds, and ways of thinking challenge us to see problems differently, ask better questions, and find stronger solutions.

Juneteenth is a time to reflect on the history that shaped our communities and recognize the value of making room for more voices at the table!

Growth happens when people learn from one another, listen with intention, and work toward something bigger than themselves.

Today we honor the significance of Juneteenth and the impact it continues to have across our communities.

INSIGHT UNLOCKED: Lead Without You

Vacation hits differently when you're not wondering what's happening back at work.

Questions get answered.

Decisions get made.

People step up.

Funny how a lot of leadership happens long before you leave for vacation.

One of the best signs of leadership isn't being involved in everything.

Knowing things can keep moving while you're away is leadership.

More than 4,200 child support cases.
Eighteen staff!
Years spent working across Tribal, State, and Federal systems.
Most people see complexity.

Agnes sees a path forward.

Today, that same experience helps Tribal communities secure funding, strengthen programs, and create lasting change through Grays Peak Strategies.

Some people work in systems.
Others help make them work better.

PTO Paradox

Vacation starts tomorrow.

Bags packed.

Flight confirmed.

Out-of-office ready to go.

Then a strange feeling shows up.

Did I forget something?

Should I check one more email?

Would it hurt to join one quick call?

Turns out leaving work behind and leaving work alone are two very different things.

Mission status: Preparing for departure.

What's the hardest part about truly unplugging?

What happens when child support addresses barriers instead of just enforcing orders?

Families get a better chance to succeed.

During ERICSA, Cherokee Nation's R.I.S.E. program shared how a different approach can help parents move toward
long-term stability by addressing challenges related to transportation, childcare, technology, and behavioral health.

As members of the Technical Assistance and Evaluation Team supporting the federal NextGen demonstration, David and Agnes work alongside Tribal sites exploring approaches that help parents overcome obstacles and build a stronger foundation for their families.

Sometimes the most important question isn't "Why isn't a payment being made?"

It's "What's standing in the way?"

Calendars fill themselves.

Focus time doesn't!

Most leaders don't lose productivity from a lack of effort.

Meetings multiply.
Interruptions stack up.
"Quick questions" appear out of nowhere.

An open block on the calendar can feel like an invitation to schedule something else.

Try treating it differently.

Protect it.

Mission status:
White space protected.

How do you create space to focus when everything feels urgent?

Calendar Boss Battle

You begin the day with a plan.

Then IT arrives.

Meeting.
Quick call.
Calendar invite marked "urgent."
Request that can't wait until tomorrow.

Suddenly, the only available opening on your calendar is 12:07 PM to 12:13 PM.

Leadership isn't only about managing priorities.

Sometimes it's about protecting them.

Mission status: Boss battle detected.

Not a bad week for a team on the road!

Joe is being recognized alongside former Indiana Child Support Directors.

Maureen and Liz are leading conversations on leadership, feedback, and teamwork.

We're also proud to sponsor the Indiana Child Support Conference and spend time connecting with colleagues from across the state.

A lot can happen in a few days.

Mission 1 revealed a challenge many leaders know well:

Meetings have a way of multiplying.

Before sending the next invitation, try a simple test:

Can the information be shared in an email?

Can the decision be made by a smaller group?

Does everyone attending need to be there?

The most effective leaders don't hold more meetings.

They make the meetings they have matter.

Mission status: Lesson learned.

What would happen if one recurring meeting disappeared tomorrow?

MISSION 1: The Meeting That Could Have Been an Email

You arrive on time.
The meeting starts five minutes late.
Someone asks for a quick recap.
Someone else says, “I’ll give everyone a few minutes back.”
Forty-five minutes later, nobody is entirely sure why the meeting happened.
Leadership lesson:
Time is one of the most valuable resources on any team. Every meeting should have a purpose, an outcome, and a reason for people to be there.

Mission status: In progress.

What's the longest meeting you've ever sat through that could have been an email?
