Models: Let’s clear a few things up before your next casting.

A casting is not the time to arrive unprepared, ask questions already answered in the notice or show up however you feel like showing up. The way you communicate, follow instructions, present yourself and respect everyone in the room is evaluated right alongside your look.

• Read the entire casting notice.
• Know your measurements.
• Arrive 10–15 minutes early.
• Wear fitted clothing that showcases your body type.
• Keep your hair and makeup simple.
• Bring exactly what was requested.
• Be ready to walk, pose and take direction.

A casting is not a booking but how you handle the casting can determine whether your name stays in the conversation.

Save this and share it with an aspiring model. Professionalism starts before you enter the room.

An Anniversary of Gratitude from Jalia Pettis
I don’t think it has fully hit me that today, August 27, 3Jay Productions has been in business for 20 years! 14 of those years have been here in Arizona.

For seven and a half years, I worked a full-time job while building this business. When I relocated from South Carolina to Arizona in 2012, that was my leap of faith. I told myself, “If you’re going to do this, you need to do it for real.” People thought I had lost my mind. I was leaving the security of a full-time job to pursue what I believed in. Looking back, that decision built perseverance in me that I don’t know I would have developed any other way.

The growing pains have been ridiculous. There were times when I wanted to give up and questioned whether I was doing the right thing. The truth is, over these 20 years, I’ve done a lot more for other people than some people have ever done for me. Quiet as it’s kept, some of those people went on to become highly recognized in the fashion and modeling industries.

For a while, I measured success against celebrity and proximity. Then I had to ask myself: Why? I didn’t create this business to chase celebrity. I created it to build a legacy for my children. That is literally where the name comes from: three J’s for my three children, whose names all begin with J. All three of my children are adults now, and they can finally see in physical form why I went as hard as I did. Why I worked a full-time job to fund the vision. Why I took the leaps of faith. Why I kept going when people referred to it as “your little business.” Please don’t get me started on that!

3Jay has gone through several evolutions because I have gone through several evolutions. I’ve changed, the work has changed, and the vision has expanded. I have tried to make this business a space I wish I had when I was still trying to figure out where I belonged and whether recognition meant I was actually successful. Let's be honest, celebrity or proximity does not automatically put more zeros and commas in your bank account. I’m not selling my soul. I’m not compromising my integrity.

Have I made bad decisions? One hundred percent. You don’t stay in business for 20 years without making some. I’ve made decisions I regretted and some that could have put me in a really bad space. I learned, I grew and I kept moving. I’m truly thankful for what this business has taught me about perseverance and what it truly means to walk by faith.

At the same time, I still feel like I’m nowhere near where I’m supposed to be. To be able to say that after 20 years means something. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I also know I’m capable of much more. I know what I believe God has promised me in this earth, and I’m going to keep using that as fuel.

At this point, 3Jay is a locomotive and we are still moving! 20 years, three children, two states and countless evolutions. I can officially say that I have been an entrepreneur for 20 years. That is absolutely nuts, and it is a blessing all at the same time.

A note from our Visionary, Jalia Pettis
Today, 3Jay Productions officially celebrates 20 years in business, 14 of them right here in Arizona.

When I started this company in 2006, I was still working a full-time job. For seven and a half years, I built 3Jay alongside that career because I saw how often BIPOC creatives were underrepresented, overlooked, and unsupported. I believed I could serve them differently.

Over the years, 3Jay has changed, grown, and evolved and there have been plenty of highs, lows, lessons, and growing pains along the way. Coming into 2026, I knew it was time to return to our roots. That decision led us to what 3Jay is today: a creative agency and talent house representing multidisciplinary creatives across photography, videography, content creation, hair, makeup, production, and more.

The industry often tells people to choose one thing, stay in one box, and niche down. But what happens to those who are truly skilled in multiple areas? At 3Jay, their range is not something we ask them to minimize. It is something we recognize, develop, and celebrate.

I am grateful for every person who has been part of this journey; the ones who came, the ones who went, and especially the ones who stayed. Every season has contributed to the company we are today.

Twenty years. Three children. Two states. Countless evolutions.

We are still here, still creating, still connecting, and still celebrating. We’re moving full steam ahead. Happy 20th anniversary to 3Jay Productions! 🥂

Black Business Month: Representation Is a Creative Responsibility

Representation has become one of the most talked-about words in marketing but representation isn't about checking a box. It's about understanding people.

As creative professionals, we have a responsibility to think beyond aesthetics. Every decision from casting and styling to creative direction and messaging communicates something about a brand and who it hopes to reach.

Thoughtful representation doesn't happen by accident. It happens when diverse perspectives are not an after thought but invited into the creative process from the very beginning.

At 3Jay Productions, we believe authentic storytelling begins long before the camera starts rolling.

It's found in the conversations: the collaboration, the planning, the intention.

This Black Business Month, we're celebrating not only Black-owned businesses but also the importance of creating work that reflects the richness of the audiences we serve. When people see themselves represented authentically, stories become more meaningful and brands become more memorable.

Last year, we had the privilege of producing an evening where fashion became a vehicle for storytelling.

This year, we're honored to return as the official fashion show producer for Untold Stories: Runway to Reality.

The 2026 theme "Bread & Roses: A Story of Resilience, Truth & Beauty" draws inspiration from the historic 1912 women's labor movement, where "bread" symbolized justice and basic human needs, while "roses" represented dignity, hope, and the beauty every person deserves. That message continues to resonate today through the resilience of Afghan women honoring their courage, preserving their stories, and celebrating the strength to move forward despite adversity.

On September 25, fashion won't simply walk the runway. It will carry stories, preserve culture, and remind us that resilience is always in style.

We're looking forward to bringing this vision to life once again alongside Nazila Couture and the Untold Stories Foundation. https://usuntoldstories.org/

Black Business Month: Perspective Shapes Possibility

Every business is shaped by the experiences of the people who build it.

For us, being a Black-owned creative agency isn't about fitting into a category. It's about bringing a perspective that's been shaped by lived experience, curiosity, resilience, and collaboration.

That perspective influences how we approach creative direction.
How we build teams.
How we communicate with clients.
How we think through visual storytelling.

It reminds us to ask better questions. To think beyond what's expected. To create work that's both intentional and impactful.

Black Business Month isn't simply a celebration of ownership.
It's a reminder that different perspectives make every industry stronger.

At 3Jay Productions, we're proud to contribute our perspective to the conversations shaping beauty, fashion, media, and creative production.

Great work isn't created from one point of view, it's built through collaboration.

People often ask where the name 3Jay Productions came from. The answer has always been simple. It came from the three people who changed my life forever, my children.

Long before I ever imagined producing campaigns, leading creative teams, or standing behind the scenes of a runway or commercial set, I was simply a mom trying to build a life that meant something.

I didn't know exactly what that would look like, but I knew entrepreneurship was deep within me. A seed planted as an adolescent which would eventually become something I nurtured with intentionality. What started as a dream has continued to grow, and my prayer is that one day it becomes a tree with deep roots, one that stands long after I'm gone.

Over the years, 3Jay has taken on many forms. It has grown as I've grown. It has stretched me, humbled me, challenged me, and reminded me more than once that purpose isn't something you arrive at; it's something you continue walking toward.

Today, 3Jay Productions is a creative agency and talent house.
Tomorrow, it may become something even bigger. I'm okay with that because the goal was never to stay the same. The goal was to keep building something my children could always be proud of.

As we begin Black Business Month and celebrate another year of 3Jay Productions; I'm grateful for every lesson, every pivot, every opportunity, and every person who's believed in the vision, even when it looked different than it does today.

This business bears my children's name, but every chapter has been written through faith, perseverance, and the willingness to evolve.

Here's to continuing the story.
