Before there were vineyards in every valley north of San Francisco, before Napa and Sonoma were household names, before there was a California wine industry at all, there was Buena Vista. Founded in 1857, Buena Vista Winery is California’s oldest premium winery, and its history is as colorful as it is proud. Just outside the town of Sonoma, the original winery is now a California Historic Landmark

, and home to our Tasting Room & Visitor’s Center. Today, the legend is being re-born under the vision of Jean-Charles Boisset. Our future is our past… our vivacious, colorful, and pioneering past!

Count Agoston Haraszthy wasn't known for thinking small.

After all, it takes a certain kind of confidence to leave Hungary, become a sheriff, import more than 100,000 vine cuttings from Europe, and help shape an entire wine industry.

The Aristocratic Tasting is inspired by that same spirit.

This elevated experience explores some of Buena Vista's most distinctive wines while diving deeper into the colorful stories, pioneering people, and remarkable history that made this winery what it is today.

A little wine. A little history. A little theater.

Exactly how The Count would have liked it.

Some dads want a tie.

Some dads want a quiet morning, a good meal, and a glass of wine poured somewhere worth lingering.

On June 21st, we're setting the table in the courtyard for Buena Vista's Father's Day Brunch. Chef-driven fare, Sonoma wines, and the kind of setting that has been bringing people together for generations.

Dad gets the standing ovation. We'll handle the rest.

Save your seat.

Tomorrow is National Rosé Day.

Our 2025 Count's Selection Rosé arrives right on cue, bringing bright notes of strawberry, watermelon, and sunshine to the table.

Would The Count have approved?

A self-proclaimed Count who crossed oceans in search of "purple gold" and planted vineyards against conventional wisdom? We think he'd be firmly in the rosé camp.

Pour cold. Pour generously. Raise a glass.

Pick a day.

Meet at Buena Vista.

That's really all you need.

A few glasses of wine, a shady spot in the courtyard, and the kind of conversation that somehow lasts three hours without anyone noticing.

No reservations to rush through. No one checking the time. Just good wine, good company, and a place that makes it easy to stay awhile.

We'll save you a seat. 🍷

Not every varietal at Buena Vista is meant to be easy.

Some are meant to hold a little more weight — to show structure, depth, and a side of Sonoma that doesn’t rush itself.

Karoly’s Selection Petite Sirah falls into that category.

Named for the Count's father, Karoly was a man of extraordinary intellect who read sixteen languages and spoke twelve. It was in Karoly’s Hungarian winery that young Agoston first learned the trade that would bring him fame and fortune. Karoly's Selection Petite Sirah is a full-bodied wine with rich fruit flavors harvested from throughout Sonoma County.

It’s bold without being overdone, and it tends to stay with you long after the glass is finished.

Zinfandel has always had a place in California.

Here, it takes on a different role.

Sparkling Rosé of Zinfandel leans a little more relaxed — fruit forward, easy to come back to, and the kind of bottle that works just as well at the start of an afternoon as it does a few hours in.

It doesn’t try too hard, which is part of why people keep reaching for it.

Serve it well chilled and let it find its way into the moment.

Jean-Charles Boisset has always believed wine should bring people together. Sometimes that looks like a tasting. Sometimes it looks like a long dinner in the caves. And sometimes it looks like him behind a DJ booth while everyone forgets what time it is.

That's the fun of membership.

Exclusive events. Special gatherings. Unexpected evenings where the wine is flowing, the music is playing, and the stories practically tell themselves.

After all, Buena Vista has always had a flair for the extraordinary.

Did you know...

Before Count Agoston Haraszthy became the Father of California Viticulture, he was San Diego's first sheriff.

Before that, he was Hungarian nobility.

Before that, he was already restless.

The self-proclaimed Count seemed incapable of staying in one place for long. Fortunately for us, his search eventually led him to Sonoma.

The rest is wine history.

Most visits eventually make their way out here.

You start inside, maybe with a tasting, and then find a seat in the courtyard just to take it in for a minute.

That minute has a way of stretching.

It’s been happening here for a long time.
