Cameron Adams, Canva's Co-Founder has just attended AI Vision in New York. One thing he shares about using AI that "teams moving fastest aren't waiting for the perfect tool. They're starting small, automating tasks, experimenting with drafts, and building from there."

One of my clients is building a great tool to use with their clients. I am helping them build this using Office365, Power Automate and AI. It's so cool seeing the automations work and a result produced without humans being involved. It certainly saves time and produces a better result!

🍂 As we ease into autumn here in Perth, it feels like a good time to pause and check in — not just on your business, but on YOU.

If you're a small business owner working from home, you'll know this feeling all too well: the laptop is always there. The to-do list doesn't clock off. The line between "work mode" and "home mode" gets blurry, fast. And with hybrid and remote work now the norm for so many of us (55% of workers prefer it, according to Robert Half's 2025 data), more of us are navigating this juggle than ever before.

Here are a few things that can genuinely help 👇
✅ Create a hard stop time — and stick to it. Set an alarm if you have to. Close the laptop. The emails will still be there tomorrow.
✅ Protect at least one "no meeting" block in your week. Use it for deep work, planning, or honestly — just having a break.
✅ Set up a dedicated workspace if you can. Even a consistent corner of a room signals to your brain that work has a place, and so does rest.

Did you know there's money sitting on the table for your home-based business right now? 💰

If you're a small business owner working from home in Perth (or anywhere in WA), February is actually a brilliant time to look into grants and funding support.

Here's a snapshot of what's currently available:

✅ City of Stirling Small Grants Round 3 – up to $5K for business initiatives (closes 28 Feb, so move quickly!). These grants are awarded quarterly to eligible applicants who can demonstrate benefits to the community.

✅ Quick Response Grants (Stirling) – up to $2K, available year-round, includes funding for becoming incorporated, and public liability insurance

✅ City of Fremantle Small Business Grants – up to $2K for marketing (great for retail, hospitality, tourism businesses)

The thing is, most small business owners are so busy IN their business that they don't have time to research what's available or tackle the application paperwork.

That's where a bit of strategic support can make all the difference. Whether it's researching eligibility, gathering required documents, or simply having someone keep track of deadlines while you focus on serving your clients – sometimes outsourcing the admin is the smartest investment you can make.

For those of us with small teams, we have a lot on our plate to remember, especially with compliance! Here is a reminder about the changes coming to Super payments in 2026 that'll affect how you manage your cash flow.

From July 1, 2026, the way we pay Super is getting a major shake-up. Instead of the quarterly payment cycle we're used to, Super contributions will need to be paid at the same time as wages (called "Payday Super") – and they must land in your employees' Super funds within 7 calendar days of each payday. It's another step that can't be put off to do quarterly anymore.

For those of us running businesses from home, this is a significant shift that'll impact:
✅ Cash flow management (no more spreading super costs across the quarter)
✅ Payroll processes and timing
✅ Administrative workload and systems
✅ Your relationship with your bookkeeper or accountant

The good news? You've got time to prepare! Here's what you can start doing now:

📌 Review your current cash flow forecasting
📌 Chat with your accountant about the impact on your business
📌 Consider upgrading your payroll software if needed
📌 Speak to your bookkeeper about paying Super on payday
📌 Start building a buffer in your cash reserves
📌 Document your new payroll processes

This change is designed to get Super into employees' accounts faster (which is great for them!), but it does mean we need to be more organised with our admin and finances.

Did you know that you can boost protection of your myID by verifying your drivers licence photo?

This is a one-off face verification check where you take a selfie that's compared to the photo on your drivers licence.

This is a new feature. I haven't been able to reach a 'Strong' identity strength as I currently don't have a passport. This affected my RAM authorisation (links your business to your ID) and would have to renew every year. Now I won't have to.

The verification literally only took seconds. It's a very quick process and easy to update.
