⚖️ New migration amendments have been adopted in Georgia
The main changes are expected to take effect from July 1, 2026, after signing and official publication.
What should foreigners know?
📌 Changes to residence permits for spouses of Georgian citizens
A temporary residence permit will initially be issued for 1 year, with the possibility of annual renewal. Permanent residence may be available after 5 years of marriage, subject to meeting the required conditions.
📌 Marriage verification will become more detailed
State authorities may conduct additional checks to verify the authenticity of a marriage, including interviews, document review, and other procedures.
📌 Student residence permits will become stricter
More attention will be given to student status, academic credits, and long-term absence from Georgia.
📌 A new D6 visa category will be introduced
This category will apply to minor foreign citizens coming to Georgia for education. In certain cases, it may also apply to family members.
📌 IT residence permit requirements will be clarified
Certain applicants may be required to meet criteria related to IT work experience and annual income from IT activity.
📌 Appeal deadlines will be shortened
In some cases, decisions may need to be appealed within 10 calendar days.
Migration procedures are becoming stricter, so it is important to review documents, deadlines, and possible risks in advance.
